B’gay execs want share from abattoir proceeds

By Jho Arranz

BAGUIO CITY -- Sto. Niño-Slaughterhouse Compound Punong Barangay CamiloTacbas requested for consideration and approval from the city council to have 1% share from the abattoir to be added to the barangay’s Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA).

PB Tacbas explained to the august body that the requested share will be to the advantage of the barangay in order for their projects to be fully implemented and not in partial payment which the usual process in the government. This would be of great help in the advancement of the barangay.

He added that what the barangay is asking for is the share on the collections coming form the slaughtering fee of cattle, pigs and goats which amounts to Php30.00 per head.  The abattoir is generating a big sum of profit but unfortunately the barangay is not benefiting from it.

It is only from the collection coming from the business permits, barangay clearances and half of the parking fees that the barangay generates profit, he said.

PB Tacbas also stressed that the barangays has been helping in the cleaning up of the excess waste coming form the slaughterhouse going to the river.

City Budget Officer Atty. Leticia Clemente mentioned that the privatization of the slaughterhouse is already at its final stages and emphasized that the request of the barangay has no legal basis.

Considering that the matter needs legal opinion, the city council referred the same to the City Legal Office and Local Finance Committee for further review and comments.
