School beneficiaries: Spare us from politics

BAGUIO CITY – Hundreds of beneficiaries of the Vergara-Domogan Educational Financial Assistance Program (VDEFAP) belied the unfair and unfounded claim of the opposition during a recent radio forum aired over a local radio station that the program did not serve its purpose of helping poor but deserving students achieve a descent education to help uplift the living condition of their families.

In a joint statement signed by more than 150 beneficiaries who are able to graduate from their chosen courses over the past several years, they said “they owe their initial success in life to the program since they were able to use the over P7,000 financial assistance per semester to defray their tuition and school expenses.

“We deeply appreciate the wisdom of Rep. Vergara and Mayor Domogan in coining and designing the scholarship program because we were taught how to be thrifty, patient, resourceful, perseverant, and hardworking as we move up to the most difficult part of life,” the graduates from different government and private higher education institutions in Baguio and Benguet stressed.

According to them, they understand the constant reminders of Rep Vergara and Mayor Domogan that education is the best inheritance that parents and guardians could give to their children since it could not be easily taken away from them, thus, they replicated such assistance by studying hard and graduating from their chosen courses on time and land in good jobs in the local and international scenes.

“The opposition should spare us from their obvious dirty tactics in their campaign because we are seriously dealing with our respective jobs. We do not want to be used by them just to advance their own personal and political interests,” they stated, adding that the opposition should understand that they owe their success in life to the wisdom of the program.
