58 foreigners nabbed in Vigan for ‘cybersex’

VIGAN City, Ilocos Sur — Fifty-five Taiwanese and three more from mainland China were rounded up by a law enforcement team after allegedly being suspected of engaging in cybersex at a resort, here.

The foreigners were arrested by Vigan City Police operatives and personnel from the City Health Office around 9:30 a.m. last Monday at Mom’s Court Yard resort in Bongtolan, Vigan City.

Seized from the suspects were several electronic communication equipment, a computer unit, and other paraphernalia, said Senior Supt. Tito Dacpano, chief of the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division of the Police Regional Office 1.

Dacpano said 44 of those arrested are men and 14 others are women.

Supt. Maximo Taclas, officer-in-charge of the Vigan City Police Station, said the group was allegedly found engaged in cybersex during a random inspection of the tourism facility by the city’s Sanitation Team.

“This is just verification on the legality of the stay of these Taiwanese nationals in our province,” said Taclas, who added that the identities of the foreigners have been withheld pending the result on the verification made by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) Office in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.

Supt. Juan Collo of the RIDM that security escorts have been provided to the Taiwanese nationals for their safety and security.

Earlier, Paul Versoza of BI-Ilocos Norte reported that at least 20 Taiwanese nationals are being monitored by the agency due to their expired documents to stay in Ilocos provinces.


However, he said that these Taiwanese were already in Manila based on the information they got from the tour guides.
