Ten Cordillera policemen receive medals
CAMP BADO DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet – Ten policemen of the Police Regional Office Cordillera were awarded with the MedalyangPapuri here at the regional police office Feb. 24.

Chief Supt. Isagani R. Nerez, congratulated the awardees for their dedication and professionalism for ensuring safety and security of residents during the Philippine Military Academy alumni homecoming, Panagbenga Festival and the Cordillera Regional Athletic Association meet in Baguio City and La Trinidad, Benguet.

He also acknowledged PROCOR personnel for success of recent activities support given to him as regional director.

The PNP personnel given the MedalyangPapuri as members of Task Force Summer Capital were Senior Supt. Jesus D. Cambay Jr, Baguio City police director; Senior Supt. Rodolfo F. AzurinJr.,Benguet police director; Senior Supt. Rolando F. Miranda, Supt. Mark B. Pespes, Chief Insp. Sibly P. DawigueyJr,; Chief Insp. Rhalf A. Macaiba and Senior Insp. Loreto Cayetano.

The same medal was also given to Chief Insp. Byron F. Allatog, La Trinidad police chief ; PO1 Rolanda D. Gooban and PO1 Janet C. Tal-odan.

9 persons hurt in Abra, Benguet vehicle accidents; 5 drivers held  
CAMP BADO DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet - Nine persons, including two minors, were injured after they were  involved in vehicular accidents in Abra and Benguet last week.

Five drivers were detained by the concerned police stations, three of them reportedly under the influence of liquor.

 In Abra, a minor and a tricycle driver were bumped along Abra-Ilocos Norte Road at barangay Calaba, Bangued on Feb. 20.

The driver of the Motorcycle identified as Rafael Blanes Advincula, 20, helper and salesboy, Barangay Bañacao, Bangued, accidentally bumped a 9-year old boy who was crossing the road then swerved on the opposite lane and bumped a tricycle with two passengers that resulted to the injury of the tricycle driver and his two passengers.

 The same incident took place along the Bangued-Peñarrubia Road in Barangay  Angad, Bangued same day wherein a tricycle and a black Ford pick-up truck collided while traveling in opposite directions that resulted to injury of both drivers and a passenger of the tricycle.  

 The tricycle driver was identified as Carmelo LaorLalin, 37, while his passenger was named as Arnold FlorendoBeronilla, 36, both residents of Poblacion, La Paz.

The truck driver was identified as PoncianoGanido Valdez Jr., 43, private engineer, and a resident of Zone 4, Bangued.

All drivers involved were found to be positive of alcoholic breath based on their medical certificates.

In Benguet, two vehicular accidents also took place wherein two victims were injured.

In the afternoon of Feb. 20, two vehicles rammed each other in Sitio Caucalan, Taloy Sur, Tuba, Benguet wherein Domingo Baldos Castillo Jr., 42, and a resident of Magallanes Street Paniqui, Tarlac on board a motorcycle was descending the opposite lane when suddenly bumped by an ascending Super Grandia commuter van driven by William Archimedes Schnupp Ayson, 44, resident of Queen of Peace Road, Baguio City. Castillo was injured while both vehicles were damaged.

Along Marcos Highway particularly in front of Hide Away Lodge in Poblacion, Tuba, Benguet a minor was bumped by a motorcycle at around 6 p.m. same day.

The victim, a minor and resident of Lucnab, Baguio City was crossing the road when he was hit by a motorcycle driven by Reynan Roxas Malabanan, 29, of Lucnab, Baguio City.

Castillo sustained fractures on his left leg while the child was fractured on his left foot with scratches on his head and back.

All drivers of vehicular accidents with vehicles involved are now under custody of concerned police stations while cases were prepared against them.


Kalinga ambulance driver nabbed for illegal drugs 
TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Aan ambulance driver was arrested in a buy-bust operation here at KesterAgageo, Billiard Place, Dagupan West Feb. 19 for illegal drugs.

Senior Supt. Victor Wanchakan,  Kalinga police director identified the suspect as Leonardo Madagsen “Bong” Nalog, 42, of Poblacion West and driver of the Kalinga Health Service.
Nalog was arrested in a buy-bust operation by elements of the Kalinga Provincial Intelligence Branch, Provincial Anti-Illegal Drug Special Operations Task Group and Tabuk City Police Station in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency PDEA.

 Recovered from the suspect were 18 pieces of sachets containing shabu valued at P 204 including the P 1,000 bill buy-bust money and two a cell phones. 

Charges are now being prepared against the suspect for illegal drugs.

Wanted drug personality nabbed in La Trinidad
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- A most wanted drug personality in the Cordillera was arrested was arrested here Feb. 26 at Barangay Pico.

James Barthon Gatawa y Tumitit alias “Barton,” who had a pending arrest warrant was nabbed by Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency – Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) at Pico-Puguis road.

Gatawa, 32, of Bad-ayan, Buguias, Benguet, was reportedly a member of the notorious and powerful Olsim drug group.

A PDEA report said urine sample taken from Gatawa gave positive test result for the presence of the dangerous drug, Methamphetamine, thus, a case for illegal drugs will be filed anew in court against him.

P4 M marijuana destroyed drug pusher arrested
CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet – Police and anti-narcotics agents destroyed around P4 million worth of marijuana plants and arrested a suspected drug dealer recently.

 A 22 -year old suspected drug pusher was arrested by police and anti-narcotics agents  in a drug buy-bust operation in Purok 6, Bulanao, Tabuk City, Kalinga particularly near the Land Transportation Office Feb. 24.

Senior Supt. Victor Wanchakan, Kalinga provincial director, identified the arrested drug trader as Gerald GumatayBangguiyac, of Lubo, Tanudan, Kalinga and a resident of Purok 5, Bulanao.

 During the operation, the members of the Kalinga Police Provincial Office, Intelligence Branch and Provincial Anti Illegal Drug Special Operations Task Group recovered the marked money worth P 2, 000 and shabu.

 Bangguiyac and the pieces of evidence were brought to the Kalinga PAIDSOTG Office while a case for illegal drugs is being prepared for filing against him.

In Benguet-, at least P4.8 million worth of marijuana plants and seedlings were simultaneously destroyed by joint forces of the Benguet police during a two-day marijuana eradication operation in Kibungan and Bakun towns.

Bakun town police uprroted  marijuana plants and seedlings valued at  P 4,305,400 in Barangay Kayapa, Bakun.

 Senior Supt. Rodolfo Azurin, Jr., Benguet provincial director, said the operating team discovered 11 marijuana plantation sites planted with 20,950 fully grown marijuana and 6, 000 seedlings in Sitio Gusadan between the boundary of Kimayad, Bakun and Lanipew, Kibungan.

Meanwhile, Kibungan police uprooted marijuana valued at P525,000.00 in SitioBeleng, Barangay Palina, Kibungan prior to their marijuana eradication operation in Bakun.

 The team led by SPO4 Melis V Pi-ay, deputy chief of police, acted on a report that there was a marijuana plantation underneath a sayote plantation.

As a result, three marijuana plantations were spotted at the river below the sayote plantation planted with 2,625 fully grown marijuana plants.

 Chief Supt. Isagani Nerez, regional police director  said the arrests and eradication drives will serve as warning to those engaging in the illegal trade. 

More wanted persons collared in Cordillera
BANGUED, Abra – Twelve wanted persons including one top most wanted person were recently arrested in the
Cordillera.  

Senior Supt. Benjamin Lusad, Abra police director, said members of Abra Police Provincial Office and Philippine Army arrested the No. 4 top wanted person of Bucay identified as Jodito Marquez Galvan, 38 ,  of Barangay San Isidro, Lagangilanfor frustrated homicide.

He was nabbed in Barangay Mudiit, Dolores town by virtue of a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Alberto Beneza, presiding judge of Regional Trial Court Branch 58 in Bucay with bail set at P24, 000.

Meanwhile, 11 other wanted persons were arrested.  Jeric Boog Lamong, 30, was arrested in Mountain Province for frustrated murder. Another murder suspect named Mario De Vera Pagador, farmer, native of Pangasinan, was also arrested at Sitio Saudi, Bulo, Tabuk City, Kalinga.

In Abra, for illegal recruitment and estafa, two women were arrested in their respective residences.

They were identified as Ofelia Benosa Zamoranos a.k.a. Maribel Zamoranos, 32,  of Barangay Maoay, Bangued, and Alma Corazon Guzman, 54, of Sitio Corapo, Barangay Poblacion, Dolores.

Lusad said two more individuals were arrested for estafa.  They were identified as Benito P. Manansala, 47,  ofAbatan, Buguias, Benguet who was  arrested in  Upper Abatan, Buguias and Guillermo Valera Castañeda a.k.a. Immong, 48, Owho was nabbed in his residence at Barangay Pangal, Danglas, Abra.

Five other wanted persons were also rrested: Jerry Agang-ang Turingan a.k.a. Doming Toringan, 20, farmer, and a resident of Mantiyeng, Cabiten, Mankayan, Benguet or theft; Jefferson Curameng Requizo, 18, of Tebteb, Balili, La Trinidad, Benguetwjp was nabbed at km 5, Pico, La Trinidad for serious physical injuries; and Faith Codillo Ugsad, 43-year-old teacher of Cabinet Hill, Baguio City for grave oral defamation.

The last two were miners who were arrested in their respective residences were Eric Vicente Bitaga, 34, a
resident of Batuang, Virac, Itogon, Benguet for resistance and disobedience to an agent or person in authority and Ortega Mamma Tongngao, 22, of Purok 8, Kias, Baguio City for high grading. -- Mar T Supnad

Benguet’s most wanted person, 3  Acetylene Gang members nabbed
CAMP BADO DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet- Chief Supt. Isagani R. Nerez, Cordillera police director said three members of the Acetylene Group were arrested in which one surrendered while Benguet’s No. 3 top most wanted person was arrested Feb 20.

He identified the alleged Acetylene members as Sherwin Foy-awan Malecdan and Bernie Dengay Bagangan both natives and residents of Barangay Alab, Bontoc, Mountain Province while the surrenderee was identified as Freddie Pakiki Ringor, 30, also of Alab and residing at Loacan Marivic, Purok 5, Loakan, Baguio City.

 Ringor surrendered after series of negotiations was made by the Regional Intelligence Division with help of local officials while Malecdan and Bagangan were arrested afternoon of the same day by the joint operatives of the RID and North Central Luzon CIDU at km 4, La Trinidad, Benguet.

 The three were reportedly members of the “Alab Acetylene Group”, operating in Central Luzon and adjacent regions of Cordillera.

All had standing warrants of arrest for robbery with force upon things issued by Judge Evelyn C. Canete of Municipal Trial Court in Cities, 4th Judicial Region, Puerto Princessa City, Palawan.

They later posted bail bond for their temporary liberty.

 Benguet’s No. 3 TMWP  was also arrested in his residence by the members of the Atok, Benguet police that same day.

Senior Supt. Rodolfo Azurin, Jr., Benguet police director identified the suspect as Samuel Diso Segundo, 41, farmer, of San Gabriel, La Union and resident of Ganao, Dupax Del Sur, NuevaViscaya.

He was arrested for homicide by virtue of a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Fernando P. Cabato, of the Regional Trial Court Branch 62.

Eight more wanted persons were also arrested for committing various crimes.

For homicide, Jaypee Cawili Jaravata, 26, farmer, of Vila, Rosario, La Union was arrested in his residence with bail set at P100,000 while Brian Abentao Marcos, 30, of Saddle, Ampucao, Itogon, Benguet was nabbed at Center Mall, Magsaysay Ave, Baguio City, for rape.

 Six persons were also nabbed in their residences: Domingo Sugot Deya-as, 65, a resident at SitioGueday, BrgySuyoc, Mankayan, Benguet who was nabbed for robbery; Arlene Aban Esyaben, 33, businesswoman, native of Buguias, Benguet, a resident of Pines Park, Balili, La Trinidad, Benguet  for estafa; Margie RemojoGerongco, 20,  of Guiwee Poblacion, Mankayan, Benguet,  for alarm and scandal.

Arrested for reckless imprudence resulting to serious physical injuries was Joseph Ablog Belina, 37, tricycle driver and resident of Malamsit, Peñarrubia, Abra.

For acts of lasciviousness, two individuals were apprehended identified as Richard Carambas Ragulos, 56, Radiologic Technologist, native of Alaminos City, Pangasinan and resident of Philex Mines, Camp 3, Tuba, Benguet and Michael Pagespes Bogsit, 52, a resident of Amgaleyguey, Buguias, Benguet who is also arrested  for violation of RA 7610 (Violence against Women).

All arrested individuals are now under the custody of the concerned police stations except Deya-as, Esyaben and Gerongco who posted bail their temporary liberty.


Benguet cops confiscate lumber, chainsaw 
TUBLAY, Benguet – Town police responded to information on an illegal logging activity here in Sitio, Pinget, Caponga which resulted in confiscation of a chainsaw Feb.  20.

The unidentified illegal loggers fled  when they sensed the arrival of police.

Meanwhile, joint operatives of Tublay police and Environment officers of  Buguias and La Trinidad, Benguet confiscated 20 pieces of freshly cut pine lumber valued at P3,772.

Same operatives also conducted anti illegal logging operation in Sitio Penan, Basil,Tublay, Benguet that resulted in the recovery of 57 illegally-sawn lumber valued at P15, 499.

Man nabbed for stealing motorcyle
BONTOC, Mountain Province -- Man here was arrested Feb. 19 for alleged theft of a motorcycle.  
Insp. Benjamin Falangon Challoy, local cop identified the suspect as James DawinJr, 19, resident of Riverside, Barangay Samoki.

Chally said at about 12:15 p.m. of Feb. 19 along the national road of Samoki, police saw the suspect is pushing a Euro motorcycle prompting them to approach and questioned him.

However Dawin ran away but was arrested and brought to Bontoc police station for investigation. -- Joanne Christine Mocay and MelynApilis

Woman arrested for deceiving motorcyle buyer 
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – A case of estafa was reported by police which occured here at about 12:30 p.m. Feb. 19 at establishment Motortrade located at k.m. 3, Barangay Balili on complaint of Maritess Escalante Adviendo, 46, of Queen of Peace Road, Baguio City.

Police said Adviento went to buy a motorcycle at Motortrade. While having conversation with a sales representative, the suspect known as Divina San Diego Santos “aka” Gina Balayad, 48, resident of Sampaloc, Metro Manila reportedly deceived the complainant into giving her money as payment for the motorcycle and immediately boarded a jeepney going to Baguio City.

Adviendo and her nephew sought police who conducted follow-up operation which resulted to the arrest of Balayad. -- Joanne Christine Mocay and MelynApilis
