Ex-military
man detonates grenade in suicide try; survives
BAGUIO CITY – A former
military man was seriously injured after he allegedly tried to commit suicide
here by detonating a grenade at the Kibungan Bar, Julian Building along the Kayang-Hilltop
Road around 6:45 a.m. Wednesday.
Police
identified the man as Daniel Minus Chong, 61, former member of the Philippine
Constabulary and resident of the place.
A police
report said Chong was suffering from asthma and arthritis and advised by his
live-in partner Irene Paleng Ayawan to go to the house of his sister here
in Quirino Hill to alleviate his asthma but he refused.
When Ayawan
left to accompany her children to school, Chong detonated the fragmentation
grenade resulting in his multiple injuries.
Their
cashier Judilyn Rubang Lingbaoan who was sleeping at the second floor was
awakened and saw Chong covered with blood.
Lingbaoan
immediately seeks the help of barangay chief Renato Biagtan and concerned
citizens who heard the explosion.
Biagtan,
police and emergency responders rushed Chong to Baguio General Hospital and
Medical Center where he was confined.
Police said
the suspect tired to commit suicide so his suffering will end but survived the explosion.
After
coordinating with Prosecutor Philip Randolf Kiat-ong, police recommended a case
for alarm and scandal against Chong.
Truck falls down Apayao ravine; driver, helper hurt
CONNER, Apayao – A
driver and his helper were seriously injured when the truck they were in fell
down a ravine here around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday the vehicle lost its brake.
Police said
the crash happened along the national road in Barangay Guina-ang when the truck
owned by Espidito C. Taguba Construction of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan driven by
Rafael Soriano Laguio, 40and his helper Freddie Mar Acorda Bareo, 18,
both residents of Centro Enrile, Cagayan met the accident.
Investigation
disclosed the vehicle was headed to Enrile, Cagayan, when the truck lost
its brake causing the driver to bump the steel barriers along roadside and
fell into a ravine around 15 meters deep.
As a
result, the driver suffered injuries on both legs and abrasions on his body
while his helper suffered injuries on his right foot and hip.
The victims
were brought to Conner District Hospital by the responding cops while the
vehicle was totally wrecked.
Drunk uncle shoots special child in Ifugao
LAGAWE, Ifugao – A
special child was shot by her drunk uncle here around 9 p.m. while he was
having a drinking spree with companions.
Police said
they received a call an hour later from the Ifugao General Hospital and
Natuwolan Clinic that a victim was brought to the hospital.
The victim
was identified as Ara Jayce Gano
Buyuccan, 28, single, resident of Poblacion East, who was allegedly
accidentally shot by her uncle identified as Jeffrey Wilson Gano.
Investigation
disclosed the victim was staying with her grandmother Cathalina Gano with the
suspect.
According
to the grandmother, said while the suspect was drinking, he ordered the victim
to bring out his gun which he left to her for safekeeping.
The victim
resisted but the suspect angrily demanded that she get it so the former brought
it out and handed it to him.
Moments
later, the grandmother heard a gunshot found the victim with blood oozing from
her right shoulder.
Police
arrested Gano and brought him to police station. The gun was not found.
Vigan security guard shot dead
VIGAN, Ilocos Sur -- A
security guard identified as Vicente Mendoza, 58, was driving his tricycle on
his way to work at the University of Northern Philippines when he was shot dead
along the provincial road here in Barangay Pantay Fatima on Monday. Police
are still trying to identify the gunmen.
Farmer nabbed for attempted homicide
MALIBCONG, Abra –
Police arrested here Wednesday a farmer at the Poblacion for attempted
homicide. Nabbed was Rolando Lim-ang Molina, 27 of Barangay Binasaran
after Bonhoefer V. Bernardez, acting
presiding judge of 8th MCTC Baay-Licuan, Abra issued warrant against him
setting bail of P12,000 for his temporary liberty.
Young man hurt as tires burst
BAGUIO CITY – A young
man was injured when a water delivery truck lost its brakes here along
Aguinaldo Road, Barangay Kias Wednesday around 11 a.m. and sideswiped him.
Police said
the truck driven by Vincent K. Bumilac with male passenger was heading towards
Philex when its right front passenger tire exploded causing the vehicle to
swerve to the right shoulder of the road damaging metal railings of the
sidewalk including cemented riprap where victim Maynard Sabong Mingol , 17, was
walking on the sidewalk.
The
victim’s left shoulder was hit while the vehicle incurred damages on its right
side bumper and its right side mirror.
Responding
police confiscated the plate number of the vehicle for reference and brought
both parties to Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center for treatment and
records purposes.
Two men shot dead in Tarlac
MONCADA, Tarlac --
Alfredo Mangunay Jr., 36, alias Jon-Jon, and his wife were at their house in
Barangay San Jose, Plaridel, Bulacan when three men wearing bonnets and helmets
entered and shot him several times, said Senior Supt. Romeo Caramat, Bulacan
police acting director.
Jerry
Marzan, 33, allegedly drew his gun during a drug sting in Barangay Tubectubang,
Moncada, Tarlac.
Man
turns over bomb to Buguias police
BUGUIAS, Benguet – A
certain Jovencio Alingbas Jr. of Bad-ayan, Baculongan Sur here turned over a
vintage bomb to police here Wednesday.
Alingbas
told cops he found the bomb at a creek near his garden at Bad-ayan. The
bomb was turned over to police authorities at Camp Molintas, Bangao, Buguias.
Abra town employee surrenders gun
LAGANGILANG, Abra – A
certain Nestor Piscador Trinidad, 42, municipal employee surrendered a Cal. 357
revolver without bullets to police accompanied by town councilor Ruben
Martinez. The gun was turned over Abra Provincial Crime Laboratory Office for
ballistic examination.
Man arrested for acts of lasciviousness
BAGUIO CITY – Police
arrested as certain Emmanuel Cabaddo Acdang, 23, farmer, of Bubwaya Carayungan Gonzalez
of Umingan, Pangasinan for acts of lasciviousness. This, after Leody M.
Opolinto, presiding judge of Municipal Trial Court in Cities Branch 3 and
Roberto R. Mabalot pairing judge of MTC in Cities Branch 2,Baguio City issued
warrant for his arrest. Gonzales posted bail.
Drug surrenderee, fisherman shot dead
TUGUEGARAO CITY,
Cagayan -- Drug surrenderee Jomar Binarao, 24, was shot dead by
motorcycle-riding men in front of his ukay-ukay store along the
highway here in Barangay Ugac Sur Wednesday.
Meanwhile,
fisherman Wilfredo Medina, 35, was in Barangay Sta. Maria, Lal-lo also in
Cagayan when motorcycle-riding men, whose faces were covered with
handkerchiefs, fired at him. He died while being treated at the Matilde Olivas
District Hospital.
Police have
yet to determine if the killing was drug-related.
Businesswoman
nabbed for estafa
BAGUIO CITY – Police
arrested a businesswoman here Wednesday for estafa. Nabbed was Lalaine Nagal
Estolas, 56, of Artiaga St., Outlook Drive. Presiding udge Glenda T.
Ortiz-Soriano of MTCC Branch 2, Baguio City who issued warrant against her set
bail of P60,000 for her temporary liberty.
Construction worker nabbed for mauling guard, resisting arrest
BAGUIO CITY – A
construction worker was arrested for mauling a security guard here and resisting
cops who responded.
A police
report said the incident happened Wednesday around 12:30 a.m. inside Liwliwa
Bar here at Padre Burgos wherein security guard Nelson Diwas Cowanzo Jr., 36
was mauled by Julius Aguab Pacday Jr., 37.
Police said
Pacday was under the influence of liquor and challenging every customer to a
fist fight inside the bar. Cowanzo approached and tried to pacify Pacday but he
suddenly punched him. Cops arrived but Pacday became more unruly and disobeyed
shouted to police officers “awan pakialam yo kanyak (You don’t have anything to
do with me)”. Another case of resistance and disobedience to an agent
in authority was filed by SPO4 Philip Pasay-an Dawang against Pacday.
Woman arrested for estafa; P600K bail set for 2 cases
BAGUIO CITY – A
33-year-old woman was arrested here Tuesday for two counts of estafa. The
suspect was identified as Lea C. Padua, 33 of Lubao, Pampanga, unemployed, and
resident of Old Pipe, Purok 6, Lower Rock Quarry.
This, after
Mona Lisa V. Tiongson- Tabora, presiding judge of Regional Trial Court, First
Judicial Region, Branch 7, Baguio City issued warrant against her and set bail
of P300,000 for each case for her temporary liberty. Padu is now detained at
the city jail.
Farmer lands in jail for violence
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet –
Cops arrested a certain Reclen Montes Antonio, 24, farmer here at Sitio
Anoding, Bahong for violation of Republic Act 9262 or violence against women
and children. This, after Marrietta S. Brawner Cualing, presiding judge of
RTC Branch 9, La Trinidad, issued warrant against him and set bail of P40, 000
for his temporary liberty.
Farmer cornered for large-scale estafa
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet –
A farmer was nabbed here Tuesday for large scale illegal recruitment. Arrested was
Sanchez Liwan Lingaling, 33, of Barangay Buyagan here.
The suspect
was arrested along km 5 after warrant was issued against him by Cecilia Corazon
S. Dulay-Archog, acting presiding judge of RTC Branch 8, La Trinidad who set no
bail.
Jeep barker arrested for threatening live-in partner
BAGUIO CITY – A jeep
barker was arrested here Tuesday for threatening to hack his live-in partner
around 4 p.m. here at their residence at Purok 1, km 3, Asin Road.
Police
named the victim as Jennivive Organista Bautista, 35 of Naguilian, La Union who
was “psychologically abused” by Ricson Bambilla De Guzman, 35 of Alaminos,
Pangasinan.
Investigation
disclosed that the victim was cleaning inside their house when her drunk
live-in partner arrived home holding a bottle of liquor. She closed their door
to avoid arguing with each other. She called her mother through cell phone her
live-in partner was at home and under the influence of liquor.
The suspect
heard the conversation that prompted him to get angry and shouted, “Okinnam sika
adda ganam agpulong, tagbaten kan topay, putang ina mo. Tumawag ka ng pulis,
hindi ako natatakot, wala kayong pwedeng ikaso sa akin (You have the nerve to
tell on me, I can hack you. I’m not afraid of the police. You don’t have a case
to file against me.)”
The suspect
got inside the house while the victim went out and immediately sought police assistance
who arrested De Guzman.
Victim
shot, drives himself to hospital
BANGUED, Abra -- A
man was shot here at Zone 2, here Monday around 11 a.m. by still unidentified
men. The victim was named as Aldrin Royce Dadag Batalon, 22, of Zone 3.
Investigation
disclosed that the victim was driving his motorcycle when the unidentified
suspects on board a motorcycle suddenly shot him with unknown caliber hitting his
back and fled after the incident. The victim went to the hospital driving his
motorcycle.

young men jailed for creating trouble in resto
BAGUIO CITY – Two
young men were arrested Monday around 6 .m. for mauling two other men who were
attending to their customers inside the Sizzling World Restaurant, Camdas.
Victims
were identified as Romar Ignalig Marquez, 23, and Haiji Ren Maramba Malvar, 19,
while the suspects were Jurdem Tamale Dusalen, 21, and Ronald Roldan Peralta,
18.
Investigation
disclosed that the victims were attending to their customers when the suspects
allegedly under the influence of liquor entered, became unruly, then attacked
and mauled the victims.
The victims
were brought to Baguio General Hospital for medical treatment. Responding police
personnel of Station 2, arrested the suspects and brought them to their station
for documentation and later to Baguio City Jail on order of inquest prosecutor
Farah Agunos.
Man
nabbed for estafa
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet
-- Police arrested Kendrick Patacsil Rodillas here Monday at Upper Kesbeng
after judge Teodorico Alfonso Bauzon of RTC, Branch 53, Pangasinan and judge
Tita Rodriguez-Villarin of RTC Branch 46, also of the province issued arrest
warrants against him for estafa. Bail was set by each judge at P60,000 for each
case for his temporary liberty.

Isabela -- Motorcycle-riding men shot Gilbert Pascua here Mondayin
Barangay Dangan Tuesday. Police said the fatality yielded under Oplan Tokhang
last year. This, as Joselito Manuel was also shot after he reportedly fired at
anti-drug operatives in Barangay Sta. Rosa 1, Marilao, Bulacan also on
Monday.
Motorcycle
driver hurt for bumping truck
MANKAYAN, Benguet – A
motorcycle driver was seriously hurt when he bumped his vehicle onto a truck
here Monday around 7:40 a.m.
Police said
the incident happened along Abatan-Cervantes national road in Tabbak, Bulalacao.
Police said
the motorcycle was driven by Rey Langgoyan Alejandro, 23, miner, of Tadian Mt
Province, while the Isuzu drop side truck with crane was driven by Walter
Liwaliw Adapang, of Mankayan.
Investigation
disclosed the driver of the truck was traversing towards Poblacion when the motorcycle
allegedly bumped the left side portion of the truck and was ran over by the
rear left wheel of the truck.
Among other
injuries, Alejandro was fractured on his right leg and immediately brought to
Lutheran Hospital, Buguias town and later transferred to Benguet General
Hospital for further medical treatment.

nabbed for collecting bets
TABUK CITY – Police arrested four
persons June 2 for allegedly collecting bets. Arrested were John Smith B.
Latawan, 42; Rafael Hidalgo Lumas-e, 38, both residents of Cabaruan, Tabuk.
Also nabbed were Adonis Lucas Reyes, 39; and Norton Reyes Bayeng,
34, both residents of Sucbot, Pinukpuk town.
Seized
items were gambling paraphernalia, ten 10 PBA ending number
official receipt and P1, 785 cash.

nabbed for illegal drugs
BAGUIO CITY – Cops
nabbed three drug personalities in a buy bust operation in June 1 at their
residence in Purok 2, Pinsao Pilot. Nabbed were Akiya Velasco native of
Bicol, her live-in partner Kimberly Felix and Christ John Quitoriano
of Puzzorobio Pangasinan, all aged 20.
Confiscated
from their possession was shabu valued at P15,000; P1,000 buy-bust money and
P14,000 boodle money.
Same
operatives arrested another drug pusher Kumar Lakhvir, an Indian national
residing at San Luis at Barangay Padre Zamora same night. Seized from him were shabu
worth P 2,000.00; P1,000.00 buy-bust money and P1,000.00 boodle money.
