ILAGAN, Isabela -- A
leader of the New People’s Army recently surrendered to government troopers in
Isabela.
Identified
only by his aliases of Popoy and Marlboro, the military said the surrenderee
was a squad leader of the Sentro Grabidad Unit Central Front of the Komiteng
Rehiyon-Cagayan Valley.
The Northern
Luzon Command said the former rebel, who reportedly had four children, escaped
from the underground movement on Nov. 11, saying he wants to have a peaceful
life with his family.
Two 5.56
rifles, 12 magazines, 230 bullets, a handheld radio, a bandoleer, improvised
explosive devices and bomb materials were among those turned over by the
surrenderee, according to Lt. Col. Gladius Calilan of the 95th Infantry
Battalion.
