Ifugao town opens trading post for farmers amid Covid crisis

LAMUT, Ifugao --The local government opened  a market facility here at Barangay Mabato-bato  to help farmers sell in the province  their products  after the closure of all  gateways of the municipality amid the threat of the coronavirus 2019 or COVID-19.
Mayor Mariano Buyagawan, Jr. said  the trading post will also serve  as a  drop point of farmers in the province  where  traders  would  buy  their products and bring them to  markets outside the province.
Buyagawan closed  the Lamut Bridge that connects Ifugao to the Cagayan Valley region effective March  26 until further notice in efforts  to prevent the entry of the COVID-19 following confirmed cases in neighboring areas. Because of this, farmers cannot transport their products to markets outside the province.
Buyagawan said all COVID-19 protocols and other measures  are strictly implemented for the safety of the farmers, traders and the buying public.
The COVID-19 Provincial  Task Force urged the public to patronize local products to avoid going outside the province.
Ben Naupo, a farmer from Lagawe, thanked LGU-Lamut for establishing the trading post that will help Ifugao farmers to sell their products without dependingon the trading facilities of other provinces like Nueva Vizcaya and Benguet.
He hopes that the facility will be blessed and managed properly for the benefit of farmers, the buying public and for the development of the province. (JDP/MBL-PIA CAR, Ifugao)
