LA TRINIDAD, Benguet –
Covid-19 positive cases in Benguet breached the
100-mark on August 11.
The
Provincial Health Office confirmed 13 new cases recorded on August 10 and 11
bringing the confirmed cases of Benguet to 104.
Additional 15
new confirmed cases were recorded August 13.
As of
August 14, data from the Public Information Office of Benguet showed the
province now has 122 cases with 68 who recovered and 58 active cases admitted
at the Benguet General Hospital and facilities in Baguio City.
The province
recorded one death, a 58-year- old male from Itogon town.
Four
returning overseas Filipino workers who contracted the disease are in the
province but not reflected in data of Benguet as they have been recorded in the
DOH national data.
Gov. Melchor Diclas said 10 percent cases were
asymptomatic.
The 90
percent were asymptomatic cases who recovered from the disease.
Benguet now
has the second most number of cases in the Cordillera next to Baguio City which
recorded 214 confirmed cases as of Aug. 13.
Baguio City
breached the 100 cases on July 28.
Cases doubled
in just two weeks with lifting of travel restrictions allowing more movements
among citizens and intensified testing and contact tracing initiatives.
Meanwhile,
the municipality of Kabayan in Benguet remains the
only Covid-free town.
Mayor
Faustino Aquisan said he was keen on keeping the municipality as is through
strict implementation of minimum public health standards, stricter border
control and guidelines for those coming to and from Kabayan.
Diclas
urged Benguet residents to strictly
adhere to the public health standards and other health protocols to prevent
transmission of Covid-19 in the province as neighboring areas
