STA. MARIA, Pangasinan – A 16-year-old
boy died Monday night in a fire that broke out at the family residence in
Barangay Poblacion West here.
In an interview on Tuesday, Fire Officer 1 Sheila Joyce Dotimas of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Sta. Maria identified the casualty as Angelo Jordan Sumabong.
Based on the initial report of the BFP Sta. Maria, the fire engulfed the Sumabong residence at 11:20 p.m.
“The mother, Rose Mia, an employee of the municipal government of Sta. Maria, was able to run outside of their residence. However, her son was allegedly trapped inside the house,” she said.
Domitas said the fire was put out with the help of fire stations from neighboring towns, but not after the whole house was razed.
The body of the victim was recovered inside the burned house.
“We are still investigating the incident. The investigators are still gathering information from the mother who is still in shock. She was unable to talk since last night,” she said.
She added the mother sustained first-degree burns.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined as well as the total cost of damage, Domitas said.
