KABAYAN, Benguet – Two
farmers were reportedly shot dead here in Barangay Luzon morning of April 17 by
two CAFGU (Citizens Armed Forces Geographical Unit) members.
On the suspects was later arrested by police and 54th IB, Philippine Army members.
Cordillera police director Brig. Gen. Ronald O. Lee identified the victims as siblings Agustin, 59 and Cristiano, 42, both surnamed Ballagan, 43, farmers and residents of Sitio Lebeng.
Based on the reports from Benguet police director Col. Reynaldo Pasiwen, suspects were named as Joel Asingco, 32, gunman and Abron Asingco, aka “Lakay,” both CAFGU members assigned at Gumhang Patrol Base in Tinoc, Ifugao.
According to the Kabayan Municipal Police Station, they received a phone call from a concerned citizen about a shooting incident at Lebeng so police went to the place.
Responders pursued the suspects which resulted to the arrest of Asingco at Poblacion, Tinoc in the afternoon while manhunt operation for the arrest of Abron is still ongoing.
Asingco was brought to Kabayan MPS for documentation and filing of charges.
Meanwhile, the firearm reportedly used in the crime was reportedly thrown at the Baay Biver located at the boundary of Kabayan, Benguet and Tinoc.
Investigation revealed the victims and the suspect had a previous argument regarding a land dispute.
