Apayao pushes stop to non-Covid events

By Redjie Melvic M. Cawis

LUNA, Apayao -- The Apayao. Provincial Health Office urged  temporary suspension of non-Covid related activities to prevent spread of Covid-19 virus in the province.
As of the April 9 data of the PHO, Apayao recorded a total of 721 Covid-19 confirmed cases with 107 active cases and six deaths.
The province as of April 9 is classified under high risk epidemic risk level.
The municipalities of Calanasan, Flora, Luna and Pudtol are under high risk level;   Sta. Marcela is under critical epidemic risk level; Conner is under moderate risk while Kabugao is classified as low risk.
With surge of cases, Mark Robin Daguio of the PHO-Apayao Provincial Epidemiology Surveillance Unit said it is best to impose a moratorium of activities not related to fight against the Covid-19 and those that require mass gathering.
The gathering of large number of individuals in venues is seen as one of the causes of the surge of cases in the province and in the Cordillera.
They urged local government units, national line agencies and  other offices to temporarily put on hold such activities.
Daguio said this, aside from following public health standards, people will have lesser chances of acquiring Covid-19.
Most of those coming to Apayao have come from areas with high number of Covid-19 cases such as the City of Baguio where most of the regional offices of government agencies are located.
He said there is danger of people coming and infecting people of Covid-19 as mandatory swab testing and quarantine of individuals was lifted by the national government making people move freely and easier. PIA Cordillera
