Tanod, farmer  nabbed in La Union for rape

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union -- – Two rape suspects including a chief tanod were arrested in the province last week. Judge Romeo Agacita of Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 27, San Fernando City issued arrest warrant on May 6 against Anthony Alfie R. Gabayan, alyas “Oming” former chief tanod of Barangay Bucao, San Gabriel who was arrested in the town. Bail was denied against the suspect. In Barangay New Poblacion, Burgos town, Lorenzo Cayat Jr., 29, farmer was arrested after Judge Ferdinand Fe, of RTC Branch 67, Bauang issued warrant against him on March 5.


Army men find NPA explosives in Isabela town


SAN MARIANO, Isabela -- The 98th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army recovered 28 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in four different locations here in Sitio Divisoria, Barangay Disulap on May 13.
    Maj. Gen. Laurence Mina, 5th Infantry Division commander of the Philippine Army, said the IEDs were discovered by the troops while conducting security operations in the said areas.
    “The recovery of the IEDs of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) is a result of a successful focused military operation and cooperation between the government troops and the local government unit as well as the local residents against the CPP- NPA,” he said.
Mina also said the use of IEDs by the terrorist group is a clear violation of the Republic Act 9851, an Act Defining and Penalizing Crimes under Humanitarian Law, Genocide and Other Crimes Against Humanity, especially on the use of weapons prohibited in warfare such as land mines.

17 vintage bombs found in N. Ecija


SAN JOSE CITY, Nueva Ecija – Seventeen vintage bombs were unearthed by workers at a construction site in Barangay Manicla here on Monday.
    Lt. Col. Criselda de Guzman, acting city police chief, said on Tuesday the discovery of the wartime explosives at a bridge construction site was reported by Ryan Ambrocio of Barangay Camanacsacan.
    De Guzman said Ambrocio was reportedly operating a backhoe when he accidentally dug up 17 vintage bombs.
Personnel of the Provincial Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Canine Unit (PECU) of the Nueva Ecija police office retrieved the bombs upon request of the city police station, she said. -- PNA


Nueva Ecija drug sting: 2 dead, P14-M shabu seized

GAPAN CITY, Nueva Ecija -- Two drug suspects were killed in an alleged shootout with anti-narcotics agents here on May 7. Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group director Brig. Gen Remus Medina said two kilos of shabu with an estimated street value of P14 million were seized from Dennis Kue and Percival Miranda.
    Medina said a Cal. 45 pistol, a 9mm and various identification cards were also recovered from the fatalities.
Pursuit operations for the companion of the suspects identified as Joel Kue are underway.
    Medina said the suspects are connected with Arthur Abdul, who was among two persons killed in a shootout with policemen in Pasig City last week.
    Twenty-two kilos of shabu worth P149.6 million were recovered in the operation.
    Medina said the fatalities were distributors of illegal drugs in Metro Manila, Central Luzon and Calabarzon.
    In Pampanga, former policeman Renan Mancmul was arrested in a drug bust in Barangay San Nicolas in Floridablanca. – Victor Martin, Ric Sapnu
