P3.4 million shabu 
seized in Benguet

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and Benguet Provincial Police Office arrested two drug pushers and seized suspected shabu worth P3.4 million here in Barangay Betag April 2.
    Suspects were identified as Abdul Madid, alias “Maino,” and Sidec Dula Madid, both listed as high-value targets of PDEA.
    The operation at 11:40 p.m. was conducted in the presence of Barangay Kagawad Frederick Compalas and Prosecutor Joylyn Calde.
    Suspects yielded five knot-tied plastic bags containing suspected shabu weighing more or less 500 grams, buy-bust money, mobile phone, wallet, IDs and ATM card, and bank receipts.
    They are awaiting arraignment.
    Meanwhile, Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong said they sought the immediate destruction of the 575 kilos of shabu valued at P4 billion seized last week in Barangay Irisan.
    Magalong added it took three days to examine the contraband by a team of Philippine National Police chemists.
The mayor said they filed a motion with the court on Monday, April 3, for their disposal after a case was filed April 1.
 

Student drowns  rescuing kin in Chico river
TABUK CITY -- A 19-year-old college student drowned while trying to rescue his cousins in the Chico River here in Barangay Calanan Kalinga on March 30.
    The Tabuk City Police Station said the victim, Franz Dumaguing, of Lubuagan, Kalinga and Bulanao Centro, here, along with his cousins and friends, went to the river to celebrate friend Margielyn Galmid's birth anniversary.
    The victim's girlfriend, Jeramey Malting Esperanza, told police Dumaguing was taking a bath in the shallow part of the river at around 4:30 p.m. when he noticed his cousin, Phoebby Dalpis, and Ezekiel Tayem, drowning and asking for help.
    Dumaguing and two friends came to their rescue but the victim was swept away by the strong current and failed to make it to the riverbank.
    His friends called for help from residents and responders who conducted a search and rescue operation and found the victim unconscious under water. Dumaguing was taken to the Kalinga Provincial Hospital where he was declared dead.


33 wanted persons nabbed in Cordi; 56 
towns post zero crime

CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet – A total of 33 wanted persons were arrested in Cordillera from March 26 to April 1.
    Based on records from the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division, Baguio City Police Office recorded the highest number of arrests with 14 followed by Benguet Police Provincial Office 10; Abra PPO, 5; Ifugao, 3 and Kalinga, 1.
    Of these, seven were listed as most wanted persons of which four are listed at municipal level, one at city level and two station level.
    Meanwhile, due to intensified police visibility and campaign against criminality, 56 municipalities in the region and five police stations in Baguio City recorded zero crime incidents during same week, the regional police press information office said.
    Zero crime incidents were recorded in 24 municipalities of Abra, three in Apayao; nine, Benguet; five in Kalinga; six in Mountain Province and nine municipalities in Ifugao.
    In Baguio City, Naguilian Police Station 1, Camdas PS 2, Loakan PS 4, Aurora Hill PS 6 and Abanao PS 7 also recorded zero crime incidents out of 10 police stations in Baguio City.
 

Cops nab 3 in NE road rage

SAN JOSE CITY, Nueva Ecija – Police arrested three road rage suspects in Barangay San Agustin, San Jose City, Nueva Ecija on Sunday evening, April 2.
    Col. Richard V. Caballero, Nueva Ecija police chief, said the suspects allegedly mauled a 39-year-old security guard from Barangay Kaliwanagan, San Jose City, Nueva Ecija during a traffic altercation at about 7 p.m.
    The victim sustained injuries in different parts of his body.
    The suspects face physical injury charges.

Top druggie  held in Ilocos

LAOAG CITY –– A high-value drug suspect, who is on Ilocos Region’s top 10 watch list, was arrested during a buy-bust operation on Monday, police said.
    The suspect, Marcos Sy, 39, was arrested during an entrapment operation around 6:30 p.m. in Barangay 2, Anao, Piddig town, said Lt. Jackson Sugayen, head of the Ilocos Norte drug enforcement unit.
    Seized from the suspect were five sachets of suspected “shabu” (crystal meth) worth around P16,000, and.22-caliber firearm loaded with six ammunition, said Sugayen.
    Authorities said the suspect was connected with the “Romel Pablo Drug Group” operating in Ilocos Norte.
    He would be charged with violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002 and the Returning Ilocos Norte residents, tourists land at Laoag International Airport.

Cops destroy P16-M illegal drugs in Ilocos

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte — Authorities in Ilocos region said at least P16 million worth of illegal drugs were seized and destroyed after a month-long anti-narcotics operation.
    At least 238.91 grams of “shabu” (crystal meth) and 940 grams of marijuana were confiscated by authorities during 93 anti-drugs operations in the four provinces in the region in March, police said in a statement on Tuesday, April 4.
    Police also said that they uprooted and destroyed at least 69,750 fully grown marijuana plants and 650 marijuana seedlings worth around P14 million.
    At least 30 drug personalities were also arrested during the same period.
    The police also nabbed 363 wanted persons in the region in March.
    Brigadier General John Chua, Ilocos police regional director, commended the Ilocos cops for their “stern and consistent implementation” of anti-criminality efforts in the region.
    He also cited the support they received from the communities. 

 

NPA arms stash found in Cagayan

BAGGAO, Cagayan – The military discovered a New People’s Army arms cache here on Monday, April 3, through information provided by two former communist guerrillas.Unearthed were two Bushmaster and two M16A1 rifles which are now in the custody of the headquarters of the 501st Infantry Brigade in Lal-lo, this province.
The informants who were in a series of encounters in this province with the military had earlier surrendered to the government due to the difficult life of an NPA fighter.
They are now under custodial debriefing and due for enrollment in the E-CLIP program and receipt of firearms remuneration.
The 501st IB urged other NPA rebels to return to the fold of the law.
It said there are multiple avenues for surrender and the Philippine Army and the Philippine National Police will not stop scouring the hinterlands of Cagayan to force the NPA to lay down their arms.


Minor wanted  for rape held in Cabanatuan

CABANATUAN CITY -- Police arrested two wanted persons, one of them a minor here April 1.
    The minor suspect charged with rape from Barangay San Roque Norte of this city was arrested in Barangay Mabini Homesite.
    He was listed as the No. 9 provincial top most wanted person with a recommended bail of P200,000.
    The other wanted man, Robert Fernandez, was apprehended in Barangay Bunga, Carranglan.
    The 26-year-old Fernandez was Carranglan’s no. 1 most wanted person.
    He was charged with violation of Republic Act 10883 (New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016).
Fernandez’s bail was set at P300,000.
    Suspects are under custody of arresting units.
