Ifugao town to supply villages with clean water

By Marcelo Lihgawon

ALFONSO LISTA, Ifugao -- Water consumers in this town will soon have a clean and safe water for consumption with the innovation being undertaken by the Alfonso Lista Water and Sanitation Authority (ALWASA).

The ALWASA recently invited a consultant of the Local Water Utility Administration (LWUA) to help assess its water source and treatment facility in barangays Sto. Domingo to supply about 1,011 households with potable water in this corn-producing municipality.

Romeo Diaz of LWUA observed the flushing loss of water being pumped to the treatment facility because the flow rate efficiency of the facility cannot accommodate the volume of water. He also noted the absence of a natural filtration tank allows dirt to flow directly to the clarifying boiler that could incur chemical and power expense.

Diaz suggested the construction of a natural filtration tank at the water source with pebbles  and sand to strain wastes.

The findings and recommendations of Diaz were presented and discussed by concerned municipal officials and personnel.

Mayor Glenn Prudenciano requested that detailed estimate of the proposed project cost be submitted the soonest possible time for review. -- With reports from Lorena Dulnuan
