PINUKPUK, Kalinga --The Department of Public Works and Highways – Lower Kalinga District Engineering Office is
hastening  completion of the Tappo, Apatan hanging bridge here.
Officer in charge district engineer Ruby Uyam said phase 2 of said project is expected to  be finished this  third
quarter.
Uyam said the bridge is a local project but DPWH, through the initiative of Rep. Allen Jesse Mangaoang.
The funding  was “for later release” this 2020 but the contractor proceeded at contractor’s own risk, she said.
The contractor took charge of its replacement due to clamor of locals for its immediate construction, considering
it being located at an insurgency-  influenced area.
The bridge which was destroyed by a calamity two years ago, is the main connection of villagers to their production
areas on the other side of the Saltan River.
It is also traversed by teachers and students going to school and local folks.
P1 million was  allotted last year for  phase 1 and was utilized for construction of the other side of the tower and
anchor. DPWH project supervising engineer Warren Liwaliw said.
He added phase 2 of the project amounting to P1million is being fastracked.
“This is also DPWH’s contribution to the “whole of nation approach” under Executive Order No. 70 to end local
communist armed conflict,” Uyam said. (JDP/PAB-PIA CAR)
