Four family members to reunion killed in mishap

DIADI, Nueva Vizcaya– Four family members, including a four-year-old girl were buried last week after they were killed in a car accident.

Police said the car the victims were riding in slammed a concrete wall here while they were rushing to a New Year’s Eve family reunion.

Police identified the fatalities as Eduardo Datu, 37; his wife Zenaida, 34; their four-year-old daughter Sandra; and Zenaida’s brother, Jonathan Vergara, 35.

The couple’s other daughter, nine-year-old Angel Datu, sustained wounds and fractures in her skull and chest. She is reportedly still in critical condition.

The Datus had come from Metro Manila and were rushing to attend their traditional New Year’s Eve family get-together in Aurora, Isabela when they met the tragedy on Dec. 31.

The Datus’ Toyota Corolla crashed into the wall of a store along the national highway in Diadi town. -- CL
