Man drowns trying to save son in Ilocos Sur

SANTO DOMINGO, Ilocos Sur -- A bus conductor drowned while trying to rescue his son in the sea of Barangay Sived here on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 8.

    Police Lt. William Costales Jr., town deputy chief of police, identified the victim as Jayson Pabo, 46, of Barangay An-annam, Bantay, Ilocos Sur.

    The victim and his family were having a picnic when his son drowned while swimming.

Pabo dived to rescue his son but was taken by the strong waves.

    The victim’s nephew also dived to rescue them but only managed to rescue the boy due to strong waves.

    Barangay tanods recovered the victim and was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead.

Costales reminded people not to swim in rough seas to avoid untoward incidents.

Mayor orders closure of San Juan beaches after drowning cases

SAN JUAN, La Union -- The mayor of this town ordered closure of beaches and halt of water activities in this seaside municipality after drowning incidents. 
    A 12-year-old boy and his nine-year-old cousin, both residents of Kibungan, Benguet, drowned while swimming on a beach in Barangay Taboc in this town on Tuesday.
Initial reports showed the victims, who have yet to be identified, were swept away by big waves.
    The boy was declared dead on arrival at the Bacnotan District Hospital.
    Rescuers were still conducting search and rescue operations for the girl at press time.
    On Dec. 27, a 19-year-old male from Baguio City drowned at a beach in Barangay Urbiztondo, also in San Juan.
    His companion went missing with no update provided yet by local police.
    In Pangasinan, Aira Mae Velasquez, 13, drowned while swimming on a beach in Barangay Nibaliw Vidal in San Fabian town.
    In his executive order 23-2023, San Juan Mayor Mayor Arturo P. Valdriz, said San Juan beaches should be closed to avoid further incidents.
    He said according to PAGASA report, the municipality is experiencing northeast monsoon or "amihan" winds which produces higher level of waves intensified by strong currents in the West Philippine Sea.
    He said the extraordinary water condition in the municipality waters poses risk to beach goers which could lead to drowning. -- With reports by Cesar Ramirez and Jun Elias

Vehicle crashes up in Baguio City; measures studied against accidents

BAGUIO CITY -- Mayor Benjamin Magalong and Baguio police director Col. Francisco Bulwayan Jr. are looking into measures to curb increasing trend in vehicular incidents in this tourism resort.
    The mayor sought data analytics on the accidents that transpired to determine the causes of the traffic accidents and serve as a guide on what actions can be taken to break the trend.

    Bulwayan said latest data from the BCPO Crime Incident Reporting and Analysis System (CIRAS) showed a total of 263 reported VTIs from October to December 26, 2023 and that human error was mostly the cause of such incidents.

    “Based on the BCPO investigation, human error was the primary contributor to 220 incidents, followed by 42 cases attributed to mechanical defects, and one incident each due to road conditions and weather conditions,” Bulwayan said.

    The police chief said the department through the Traffic Enforcement Unit proposed measures to address the problem to wit: imposition of speed limits on all streets, strict observance of no-overloading policies especially for vehicles on hilly terrains, installation of clear traffic signage, and the reconstruction of roads that have deficiencies or damages.

    He said the measures will “address the root causes of accidents and bolster traffic management and safety within the city.”

    “We are also urging public cooperation to foster a safer road environment, aiming to reduce VTI occurrences by addressing human error, mechanical defects, and unfavorable road conditions,” he said.

    The CIRAS report showed that as a result of the VTIs, a total 215 cases were filed for reckless imprudence resulting in damage to properties, 46 for reckless imprudence resulting in physical injuries and two others for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.

Drowned man’s body found in Abra river

LANGIDEN, Abra -- After more than two weeks, search and rescue operatives retrieved the body of a drowning victim at river here in Barangay Quillat morning of Dec. 20.

    Authorities identified the victim as Joseph Borreta, of Agtangao the capital town of  Bangued who was reported missing after he drowned while crossing the river  Dec. 4.    
    For days and weeks, personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection in Bangued,  Bangued and Langiden police and troops of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 15 conducted search operations.
    They were aided by the local residents.
    Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices personnel of Langiden, San Quintin and Pidigan towns and Ilocos Sur PDRRM joined the search.
    The operation was led by the Abra Provincial Risk Disaster Management Office.

One dead, 13 hurt in Tuba 3-vehicle crash

TUBA, Benguet -- A three-vehicle collision in Sitio Salpang, Barangay Taloy Sur, along Marcos Highway here left one dead and 13 others hurt Monday evening.
    The 14 victims included three minors and 10 seniors and another adult.
Tuba police said the highway accident happened around 10:15 p.m. while the three vehicles were travelling to the lowlands.
    Upon reaching sitio Salpang along Marcos Highway, the white van suffered a defect on its brake system and started speeding. 
    The driver completely lost control and sideswiped the Sports Utility Van it was following, thus, sending the latter to smash the rear of a pick-up truck it was following.
    The white van then tumbled on its side in the northbound lane causing injuries to its 14 passengers who were rushed to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center.
    One of the victims, whose identity was not immediately disclosed, reportedly died at crash site.

Woman ‘alive’ after plane crash but did not survive jungle

TUGUEGARAO CITY -- The lone passenger of the ill-fated Piper plane with tail number RP-C1234 was probably alive when it crashed in the Sierra Madre forest in Isabela on Nov. 30.
    This was the assessment of the rescuers who found her remains 200 meters away from the plane's wreckage in San Mariano, Isabela.
    The passenger was identified as Erna Escalante, a 43-year-old barangay health worker in Dimapnat, Divilacan, Isabela.
    "She had her personal belongings with her and with some food when found. She was alive after the crash but was unable to survive the Sierra Madre," AK9 Mandog Sniffer Volunteers head Red Oliva Lim told reporters here.
    The rescue team arrived at the crash site on December 7 and found the remains of the pilot, Capt. Levy Abul 2nd, among the wreckage.
    The team, however, did not find the woman in the wreckage but saw a makeshift shelter nearby and traces of snack foods in the area, hinting that the passenger was probably alive after the plane crashed. With the help of scent-tracking dogs, her remains were located in a slopy part of the forest on December 10.
    The rescuers hinted that her wounds, previous illnesses and days of no food or water intake may have had an adverse effect on her.
    As this developed, scent-tracking dogs have been met with accolades at the command site for the successful retrieval of the body.
    The smallest among the three rescuer dogs, an eight-year-old beagle named Wheel, was the one who helped the team find Escalante's body.
    "Wheel has a great smell and tracking instincts," Lim said, adding that the two other dogs, Drake and Bekong, also helped in retrieval operations.
    The Piper PA-32-300 plane owned by the Fliteline Airways and operated by Cyclone Airways, departed Cauayan Airport at 9:39 a.m. on Nov. 30 and was supposed to arrive at Palanan Airport at 10:23 a.m. on the same day of the crash.

Tabuk SWAT officer killed in hit-and-run

TABUK CITY, Kalinga -- Police Master Sergeant Aldrine Agpad, 36 assigned as one of Special Weapons and Tactics Philippines (SWAT) team in Tabuk City was killed in suspected hit-and-run incident while jogging Dec. 1. 

TABUK CITY -- A 36-year-old police officer here died in a suspected hit-and-run incident while jogging Dec. 1, belated police reports bared.
Police Master Sergeant Aldrine Agpad who was assigned as one of the Special Weapons and Tactics Philippines (SWAT) team in Tabuk City left their house past 3 a.m. to jog and report to duty after.

    However, at 6:30 a.m., he was found injured and lying motionless on the national highway in Barangay Nambaran.
    He was rushed to the hospital, but declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
    Kalinga police spokesperson, Capt. Ruff Manganip, said investigators believe Agpad was hit by a vehicle due to debris found near his body.
    Manganip added that a person in the area heard loud crash sound around 3:41 a.m., but he didn’t get out from their house to check what happened.
    The vehicle responsible of the incident, meantime, is still being searched by the police and investigators are currently reviewing CCTV footages to track it.
    To help in the identification of the suspect, Manganip urged the public who saw a car with damaged hood to message PNP Tabuk hotline, 09089000900 or the Kalinga PNP at 09157796556.
    “Agpanpanawagan tayo latta iti tulong iti publiko nga nu adda man iti makita da nga nadadael iti hood iti maysa a lugan ket itext da latta iti hotline tayo,” Manganip said.

Pilot dead in plane crash site; hope up female passenger alive

SAN MARIANO, Isabela -- The body of the pilot of the Piper plane that went missing last week was found Thursday by a search and rescue team in the jungles of the Sierra Madre rainforests.
    However, the lone female passenger was "not found in the vicinity" of the crash site here in Barangay Casala, the Incident Management Team reported Thursday, Dec. 7, giving hope to rescuers she surived.
    The plane's pilot was identified as Capt. Levy Abul 2nd while the lone passenger was Erma Escalante, 43, of Palanan town, Isabela.
"Around 11 a.m. of Dec. 7, rescuers that were dispatched a day earlier reached the wreckage of the Piper plane," said Joshua Hapinat, spokesman of the IMT, in a statement.
    "Sadly, the pilot was found lifeless. The lone passenger was not found in the vicinity. However, she appears to have survived the crash as indicated by a makeshift shelter that she presumably put up near the wreckage."
    The Piper PA-32-300 plane owned by the Fliteline Airways and operated by Cyclone Airways, departed Cauayan Airport at 9:39 a.m. on Nov. 30 and was supposed to arrive at Palanan Airport at 10:23 a.m. on the same day.
    Rescuers brought the remains of the pilot to a helicopter landing zone, hoisted aboard, and then flown to the Tactical Operations Group 2 in Cauayan City," Hapinat said.
    Teams of K9 trackers, who were earlier on standby, were fetched from their locations to be brought to Cauayan City.
    "The K9 trackers will be flown and dropped near the wreckage. Starting at the site of the wreckage, the K9 trackers will then follow the path that the passenger took through the scent that she left on the vegetation that she passed by," he added.
    The IMT has not released photographs or videos of the wreckage site to the media.

Bus hits motorcycle, drags rider to death in Abra

PIDIGAN, Abra – An 18-year-old was killed when the motorcycle he was riding was hit and dragged by a passenger bus at 9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4 here on Abra-Ilocos Sur Road in Barangay Pangtud.
    Victim Sean Kenneth Laureta, came from a birthday party headed home when he met the tragic accident.
    When he was about to go back to get the cap while riding his vehicle, he was hit by the passenger bus and was dragged almost 10 meters from the point of impact.
    Both vehicles were headed north when the accident happened.
    The bus, according to the police, overtook a tricycle prior to the crash.
    Police said the passenger bus driver might not have noticed the motorcycle coming back, resulting in the accident.
    Due to the impact, blood stains were scattered in crash site.
    Rescuers brought the victim to the Abra Provincial Hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival.
    A case will be filed against the driver for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to properties, even though both parties decided an amicable settlement, as part of the process.
 

    A witness said the victim’s cap fell off while driving.

Rider killed after hitting tractor in Isabela; buried

QUEZON, Isabela – The body of a 52-year-old rider who died after the motorcycle he was driving hit a tractor here Nov. 22 was buried last week.
    The casualty, identified as George Viernes, of Santa Maria, Isabela, was traversing the road in Quezon on said day when he met the accident.
    Viernes’s motorcycle allegedly struck the back of the tractor, driven by Rodolfo Natividad, 56, a resident of Barangay Mangga, Quezon.
    Police said the two vehicles were in the same lane when the incident transpired.
    Due to the force of the impact, the victim sustained severe injuries to various parts of his body.
    He was rushed to a hospital by the responding authorities but declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
    The two vehicles involved in the incident were placed in the custody of the Quezon Police Station for proper disposition.

Drunk rider dies after crashing into a wall

SAN MATEO, Isabela -- A 30-year-old man who was driving drunk died in a road crash here that claimed his life recently.
    The victim, identified as Joey Senense, along with his friends, went on a drinking spree Nov. 26.
    After their drinking session, he decided to go home.
    His buddies tried to stop him, but he persisted and drove off.
    While on his way home, his motorcycle crashed into a wall, causing him to fall into a cemented canal.
    The victim sustained severe head injuries due to the incident.
    Responding authorities rushed him to a hospital in the city, but he was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
    Investigation conducted and witnesses bared Senense, a resident of San Mateo, Isabela, was speeding when the incident transpired.

Man drowns in Abra River; folks search for body

LANGIDEN, Abra – Authorities and local folks are still searching for a man believed to have drowned in the Abra River Tuesday, Dec. 5.
    Joseph Borreta, 32, married, went out for a fishing trip with his brother and father, Jovencio Borreta, on Monday.
    They were to cross the river along Quillat, Langiden to get to the fishing area.
Jovencio crossed the river first, while the younger Borreta swam his way towards him.
    Unfortunately, Joseph was not able to make it to the other side.
    When Jovencio heard his son asking for help, he tried to save him but it was too late, Joseph had been swept away.
    He immediately called for fellow fishermen and authorities for help who are still searching for his son’s body as of presstime.

Jovencio said his son was a swimmer but he might have been exhausted, causing him to drown.

Authorities warned drowning is not something you can survive because you can swim.

DOTR-Cordillera sets strict measures vs road accidents

BAGUIO CITY – The Dept. of Transportation Cordillera has upped strict implementation of traffic laws, intensified monitoring of public utility vehicle terminals, and roadside inspection of vehicles are being done to prevent road crashes.
    In a phone interview on Thursday, lawyer Joshua Pablito, DOTR-Cordillera director, said based on data from the Philippine Statistics Authority, road accidents were the 13th leading cause of death among Filipinos in 2022.
    He said this is why authorities check the roadworthiness of vehicles during their annual registration, whether drivers have valid licenses while on the road, and if passengers are using seat belts.
    He said having a driver’s license is a privilege but it could be revoked or suspended by the department once there is a complaint against the holder.
    DOTr personnel also conduct regular monitoring of public utility vehicle terminals, as well as on-the-spot drug testing in partnership with law enforcement units to ensure that the drivers and their conductors are physically and mentally prepared to ferry commuters.
    “To prevent another person (from) becoming another victim, another person in jail, another person wanting to seek revenge for his loved one, another life lost due to nonsense and stupidity, we must strictly enforce traffic laws and remind everyone to be careful and to observe due diligence, defensive driving, and road safety,” Pablito added. – PNA

Three dead in Ilocos drowning incidents

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte — Three people died in separate drowning incidents Nov. 19, in Ilocos region.
Reports from the Police Regional Office-1 showed victims were from Ilocos Sur and Pangasinan provinces.
    In Pangasinan, police said John Paul Mislang, 5, drowned in a pool at a resort in Polong, Buggallon town, while swimming with his relatives.
    Responding personnel tried to revive the boy, but he was declared dead on arrival in a local hospital.
    Also in Pangasinan, the body of John Jomar Nepacena, 17, from Dagupan City, was found floating in a river traversing Malaued village.
    Police said Nepacena disappeared on Nov. 17 when he and his friends went swimming at a river in Quisban village.
    In Ilocos Sur, Mary Jessel Gabor, 3, also drowned while swimming in a river in Lidlidda town.
Investigators said a resident saw the body of Gabor floating in the river, which prompted him to rescue the child.
Gabor was brought to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Boat capsizes off Cagayan waters; 14 fishmen rescued

CALAYAN, Cagayan -- Fourteen fishermen were rescued when their boat capsized in the waters off this town Monday, Nov. 20.

The Philippine Coast Guard said the fishermen were onboard MB Agalexa 2 when they encountered rough seas within vicinity of Ensenada Point off Camiguin Island.

The PCG substations in Calayan and Camiguin Island sent deployable response group teams to conduct search and rescue operations.

Three motorized boats rescued the 14 fishermen and brought them to Camiguin Island.

The fishermen were declared to be in good physical condition by the rural health unit.

Child critical, 10 hurt in Itogon jeep-SUV collision

ITOGON, Benguet -- A child remains in critical condition at a hospital in nearby Baguio City after the jeepney he was riding with family members lost its brakes and collided with a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) in this mining town along Sitio Bubon, Barangay Virac Monday evening.
    Itogon police said the child is still at the operating room of the hospital where 10 more victims were rushed after the accident.
    Police said the jeepney was homebound from Baguio City when its braking mechanism malfunctioned sending it wayward and eventually rammed into the SUV.
    The authorities identified the driver of the jeepney as Jeffrey Mendez from Itogon while the SUV was driven by John Paul Simeon Mayao, also from Itogon.

    Police have yet to provide update about the case following the accident.

Folks vandalize bus after fatal motorbike collision in Tabuk; 1 dead, 3 hurt

TABUK CITY -- Enraged residents vandalized a Victory Liner Royal Class Sleeper bus after it crashed into a motorcycle, killing one of its passengers here Nov. 12.
    The bus driven by Diosdado Valdez, 48, was headed to Cubao when the accident took place.
    A police report said the bus was attempting to overtake a motorcycle with four people — a couple and their two children — on board at an intersection when the motorcycle suddenly made a left turn.
    Valdez said he was unable to apply brakes in time as the bus hit the motorcycle, which he claimed did not make a left turn signal.
    Eyewitnesses reported several angry residents attacked the bus and tried to break its windshield by throwing stones and other hard objects.
    Fearing for his life, the driver remained inside the bus until authorities arrived.
    Col. Freddie Lasona, director of Kalinga Provincial Police Office, identified the fatality as Joy Balwog Alos, 49, a resident of Dananao, Lacnong East, Tabuk City.
    The motorcycle driver, Daniel Alos, 46, and his children, ages 10 and 8, suffered injuries and were brought to the hospital.
    The damaged Victory Liner bus was impounded at the provincial police headquarters for safekeeping, while the driver was held at the Tabuk City Police Station for investigation.
    The Victory Liner management has yet to release a statement on the incident.

P’sinan b’gay chief killed in road crash

SAN CARLOS CITY, Pangasinan -- A village chief here was killed after he was run over by a dump truck in a freak accident in Barangay Perez Boulevard here on Tuesday, Nov. 14, a report by the Police Regional Office 1 said on Wednesday.
    The police said 55-year-old Alejandro Calugay, village chief of Barangay Cobol, was driving his motorcycle with 29-year-old Melanie Rosendal as his back ride when he tried to overtake a dump truck in the outermost lane of the road.
    He lost control of his motorcycle, which slipped on the road ahead of the truck. He was thrown off his motorcycle, and the truck ran over him.
    Calugay suffered injuries in the different parts of his body and did not make it to the hospital alive.
    He was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
    His passenger also suffered injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Calugay was recently reelected as barangay chief.
    In Bolinao town, a 33-year-old construction worker was killed, also on Tuesday, after he was electrocuted while fixing a cable in his house in Barangay Luciente 1.
    Police said Jerry Romero Casipagan was found dead by his father, Pancho, at around 12:45 p.m.
    His family brought Casipagan to a hospital in the town, but a doctor there declared him dead on arrival.

3 killed in Pangasinan motorcycle accidents

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan -- Three riders were killed Nov. 5 in three separate motorcycle crashes in Pangasinan, the provincial police office here said.
    In Infanta town, a back rider was killed after she was thrown off the motorcycle when it hit a carabao crossing a highway in Infanta town at about 7:15 p.m.
    Cpt. Christopher Nacional, Infanta police chief, said Rina May Picardan Camado, 21, was immediately taken to the Dasol Community Hospital in nearby Dasol town but was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician.
    The motorcycle, which was driven by Patrick Muega de Lara, 25, was traversing the southbound lane of the road in Barangay Maya in Infanta when a carabao suddenly crossed the road. De Lara suffered injuries in different parts of his body and is now recuperating in a hospital.
    Nacional said the carabao lost one of its horns when it was also hit by a sport utility vehicle traversing the northbound lane.
    The carabao, which is owned by Michael Medina, 40, of Barangay Maya, did not appear to have been hurt.
    In Bolinao town, a construction worker was killed when his motorcycle was rear ended by a tricycle, sending him sliding on the road and crashing into another tricycle.
    The incident took place at about 4:35 p.m. in Barangay Cabuyao.
    Police said the construction worker, Arnhel Eufemiano Opolinto, 42, was already dead when he reached the Bolinao Community Hospital, where he was taken.
    In Mangatarem town, another construction worker was killed after his motorcycle collided with a tricycle in Barangay Bueno at 7:10 p.m.
    Police said Marcelino Delaria Collado, 48, of Barangay General Luna, was taken to the Mangatarem District Hospital, but he also did not reach the hospital alive.
    The tricycle driver, Ambrosio Rusco Cervantes, 53, and his passengers, Patricio Orcas Cervantes, 15, and Zenaida Orcas Cervantes, 47, suffered minor injuries.

Rider dies after rescue vehicle hits motorcycle in Abulug, Cagayan

ABULOG, Cagayan – A rescue vehicle designed to save lives became the reason for the death of a 28-year-old motorcycle rider in an accident that transpired here recently.
    The incident, according to police, happened at Lucban Bridge in Calog Sur of said municipality.
    The victim was traversing the bridge on board his motorcycle when he was allegedly hit by new barangay rescue vehicle of Upper Atok, Flora in Apayao, then headed to opposite direction.
    The rescue vehicle was driven by a certain Marcito Viernes, 54.
    With impact of collision, the victim, identified as Aurelio Agbisit, 28, was thrown a meter away on said bridge.
    He was brought by responding authorities to Far North Luzon Hospital in Luna, Apayao, but declared dead on arrival by attending physician.
    The driver of the rescue vehicle, was taken in custody by Abulog Municipal Police Station.
    He was facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide as no amicable settlement was made at press time.

2 motorbike riders hurt in Luna, Apayao crash

 
LUNA, Apayao - Two men from Pudtol town were rushed to Far North Luzon General Hospital and Training Center (FNLGHTC) here in Barangay Quirino due to vehicular accident Oct. 20.
    A witness said the incident happened around 3:47 p.m. in front of Rural Bank of Angeles - Luna Branch.
    The Honda XRM 125 ridden by two male individuals, the witness said, was overs peeding and attempted to overtake a white Mitsubishi Delica Van, but lost control when the motorcycle hit its bumper, causing them to collide with a maroon pickup truck traversing the opposite lane.
    The driver of the pickup, Joseph Abugan, 29, from Santa Marcela said he and his pregnant wife were driving home when the incident happened.
    “Naggapu kami didiay DepEd ta adda ilak-lakad mi kenni misis ko, kalpasan na napan kami Philhealth, agawid kamin, naka-in innayad kami ta masikog ni baket ko, eight months. Mapan kami kuma payla ag-grocery, ngem bigla nga adda naipasiruk nga motor iti lugan, imbag ta Haan nadangran ni baket ko,” he said.
    He added he tried to avoid the motorcycle, but the incident happened so fast.
    His wife, he added, was shocked with the incident.
    Meantime, the two male occupants of the XRM 125 sustained injuries and were brought by police and fire officers to the FNLGHTC.
One of them was reportedly the barangay chairman in Pudtol.

Laborer, 44 drowns during picnic in Piat

PIAT, Cagayan – A 44-year-old man recently drowned at  Chico River while swimming while under the influence of alcohol.
Victim ‘alias’ Tomi, 44, was dead when he was pulled out of the water a few hours after he drowned.
    He was from Upper Bicutan, Taguig City, and worked here as construction worker.
    The victim along with his workmates was reportedly at the river in Barangay Dugayung, Piat for a picnic when the incident transpired.
    They decided to go for a swim, but moments later, the victim ended up in a deep part of the river without being noticed by his companions.    
    He was later searched by his companions but was found lifeless a few hours later.
    The victim’s remains was brought to Taguig City by the Task Force Lingkod Cagayan (TFLC)-Tuao Station, the Cagayan Provincial Information Office reported.
 

2 injured in Tanudan road mishap on BSKE

TANUDAN, Kalinga – Two riders were injured in vehicular traffic accident here during the just concluded barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
    The road crash happened around 12:40 p.m. on Oct. 30 along the Tanudan-Banawe Road at Sitio Pagugo, Dupligan.
Capt. Florand Sim, Tanudan acting chief of police, told media a utility vehicle wagon came from Tabuk City and headed to Upper Tanudan when it attempted to overtake a motorcycle at the sharp curve portion of the road.
    This resulted in the vehicle, driven by Christalyn Masa-ao, 35, who was said to be on her way to cast her vote, crashing against a Honda 125 motorcycle traversing the opposite lane.
    “While on the way, ditoy Pagugo idiay sharp curve portion, in-overtake an na daytoy adda sangu na and eksakto metten nga paumay diay motor (Honda 125). So nagbinnangga daytoy motor and lugan,” he said.
    The rider of the Honda 125 identified by the police as Marlon Pengad, 35, and his back rider, Sheryl Pengad sustained injuries and were brought to Kalinga Provincial Hospital.
    The former, as mentioned by Sim, was admitted but in stable condition while the latter was released from the hospital.

    The acting chief of police, meanwhile said  no election-related violence was observed in Tanudan during the casting of votes for the BSK elections.

Two riders killed in P’sinan road crash

AGUILAR, Pangasinan -- Two persons were killed when a tricycle and a motorcycle collided at the Romulo Highway in Barangay Buer here  night of Oct. 21, the Provincial Police Office said in a report.
The police identified victims as Kenneth Tamesa de la Cruz, 36, driver of the tricycle, and Ogie Leo Custodio Doque, 25, driver of the motorcycle.
    Police said Doque was driving his motorcycle on the northbound lane of the highway when the tricycle driven by de la Cruz on the southbound lane of the highway suddenly swerved to the opposite lane of the road, hitting Doque's motorcycle.
    Both drivers were thrown off their vehicles and fell in the middle of the road due to strong impact.
    The responding personnel of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office immediately brought the two drivers to the Mangatarem District Hospital in neighboring Mangatarem town, where a doctor there pronounced them dead on arrival.
    Police said investigators were still trying to find out why the tricycle encroached on the other lane.
