P1.8-M marijuana seized; two men nabbed in Cordi

POLICE ROUNDUP 

CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet -- A total of P1,826,800 worth of illegal drugs was seized while two drug personalities were arrested Nov. 26 to Dec. 2, the regional police information office bared.
    Records from the Regional Operations Division identified the two suspects as Bernard B. Pallay and Jaydee A. Espisa.
    They were caught in possession of a gram of suspected shabu worth P6800.
    The arrested suspects and confiscated items were brought to respective police arresting units.
    Charges for violating the Republic Act 9165, or Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, was prepared against the suspects.
    This, as same report disclosed total of 7,300 pieces of fully grown marijuana plants and 3,000 stalks worth P1,820,000 were discovered in a marijuana eradication operation in Benguet.
    These were all burned by lawmen after documentation while operations are being conducted to identify marijuana cultivators.
    Police are reportedly conducting barangay visitations and information campaigns against illegal drugs.
 

 
 11 wanted persons nabbed in Cordi; no crime in 65 towns

CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet – Police arrested 13 wanted persons, while 65 Cordillera municipalities recorded zero crime incidents Nov. 26 to Dec. 2, the regional police information office bared.
    Records from the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division of Benguet Police Provincial Office bared arrest of six wanted persons, followed by the Baguio City Police Office with three, Abra PPO with two, Ifugao and  Mountain Province PPOs with one arrest each.
    Of these arrests, five were listed most wanted persons at municipal level. Meanwhile, as a result of the intensified police presence, 65 municipalities in Cordillera provinces, including three police stations in Baguio City recorded zero crime incidents in these areas during the same week.
    Zero crime incidents were recorded in the 25 municipalities in Abra; nine towns in Benguet; five, Kalinga; nine, Ifugao; seven, Apayao; and 10 in Mountain Province.
    In Baguio City, Camdas, Aurora Hill and Kennon police stations also recorded zero crime incidents out of the 10 police stations in the city.

Killer from Apayao who ate victims’ liver with brother nabbed

STA MARCELA, Apayao - A detainee in a murder case who escaped jail by killing the prison guard was arrested by authorities at Sitio Sta. Lucia, Pita, Dinalupihan, Bataan, Friday, Oct. 27.
    The suspect, a 51-year-old from Flora, Apayao, tagged as Sta. Marcela’s most wanted was first arrested for killing and burning two people in Flora.
    He reportedly did the said crime with his brother.
    It was alleged that the two removed the livers of their victims and made it their ‘pulutan’ during a drinking spree.

    After being arrested and imprisoned at the provincial jail situated in Sta. Marcela back then, the suspect and his brother managed to escape by killing a jail guard in 2014.
    Captain Ginabel Dao-inon, chief of police of Sta. Marcela said the suspect snatched the jail guard’s firearms — a shotgun and a 9mm.
While escaping, the suspect also shot the sibling of another detainee which resulted in the person’s death.
    Though a hot pursuit was immediately conducted by authorities, the suspect and his brother were able to flee. The latter was arrested last year, according to Dai-inon.
    The chief of police said the suspect was sighted in Tarlac last month.
    The arrest was done with  Apayao police, led by Maj. June Lawingan, Sta. Marcela and Dilapihan police, Cordillera Regional Intelligence Division, RMFB 15, RIU 14 and 1st Apayao PMFC
    The arrest was made by virtue of two warrants of arrest, one issued on December 18, 2014, by Quirino M. Andaya, Presiding Judge, RTC Branch 26, Luna, Apayao, and alias warrant of arrest issued August 2, 2016, by Francisco S. Donato, Judge Designate, Regional Trial Court, Branch 26, Luna, Apayao.
    The first warrant is for a murder case involving use of an illegally possessed firearm with no recommended bail bond, while the other was for another murder case with no bail recommended.

 2 foreigners lose P7 million cash, jewelry to burglars in Baguio

BAGUIO CITY — Two foreign tourists currently residing here recently lost over P6 million in jewelry and cash to burglars at dawn.
    The victims identified as Sigundina Pastorin Douthwaite, 75, and Tyler Laude Tanap, 20, were both asleep Oct. 18, when thieves broke into their condominium unit along Yangco Road, Upper General Luna.
    The two are Filipino - Canadian and Filipino - American citizens, respectively.
    Around P6,606,000 worth of two bracelets, diamond ring, diamond necklace, rolex watch, emerald necklace, and $30,000 were taken away from Douthwaite.
    Meanwhile, Tanap lost about P215,000 worth of IPhone 13 and diamond necklace.
    Police through DZWT 540 – Radyo Totoo said the burglars might have climbed the concrete fence to get into the unit.
Tanap said he left the sliding door open when they went to sleep.
    According to three guards who were then on duty, they did not see anyone entering or climbing the condominium that time.

Man attacks 2 Cagayan men; hacked dead

RIZAL, Cagayan – An intoxicated man here was hacked after attacking two men who were also drunk on Oct. 29.
Cagayan police said the victim, identified as ‘Alyas Jong’, drank three bottles of gin before he pwent to a shanty where the two suspects were on a drinking spree.
    From there, the victim knocked on the door non-stop, and when ‘Alyas Lando’, one of the suspects, asked for his identity, the victim did not answer.
    Instead, he continued knocking, prompting Lando to open the door.
    To his surprise, the victim hacked him with a bolo, hitting his head.
    To defend himself from the victim, Lando wrestled with him until he snatched the bolo from the victim.
    He then gave the bolo to an ‘Alyas Geroge’ which was used by the latter to hack the victim’s head three times.
    Noticing that the victim was helpless and lying on the ground, the two decided to surrender to Rizal police.
    The victim was ferried to Tuao District Hospital but declared dead on arrival.

Woman yields gun to police in Baguio

BAGUIO CITY – A woman resident of Purok Sadjo, Barangay Loakan Proper here  voluntarily surrendered to police a Cal. 22 revolver (paltik) without serial number and ammunition last week. 
    A report submitted to Cordillera police director Brig. Gen. David K, Peredo Jr. said the firearm was discovered by the women when she cleaned the cabinet of her late live-in partner.
    The illegal firearm, given to Loakan Police Station, was turned over to Baguio City Forensic Unit for ballistic examination.
Cordillera police intensified campaign against loose firearms in implementation of Commission on Elections Resolution 10918 (gun ban) in relation to barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections held Oct. 30.
    A report by regional police information office said voluntary surrender of the gun was due to intensified campaign like information dissemination against unregistered and unlicensed firearms under the PNP LOI Kontra Boga being conducted by police stations.
 
Cordillera police seize over P20-M illegal drugs

CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet — Cordillera cops seized a total P20,999,200 worth of illegal drugs and nabbed two drug personalities in separate anti-illegal drugs operations Oct 22 to 28 in the region, the regional police information office said. 
    Citing records from the PRO Cordillera’s Regional Operations Division, the two drug personalities were reportedly arrested after they were caught in possession of 156 kilos of marijuana bricks and 10 kilograms of vacuum-sealed tubes of marijuana leaves and stalks worth P19,920,000.
    The same report disclosed the two arrests were made separately by Benguet and Kalinga police. Suspects were identified as Benjamin Fajardo Bauto, 54 and Caen Khristian Beltran Rioga, 19.
    Arrested suspects and confiscated items were brought to police stations of arresting units, while charges for illegal drugs were being prepared against them.
    Meanwhile, in separate marijuana eradication operations, three marijuana plantations with 2,360 fully-grown marijuana plants, 5,000 grams of dried marijuana leaves and fruiting tops including 180 pieces of marijuana seedlings worth P1,079,200 were discovered in Benguet.
    These were all burned by the lawmen after documentation.
    A probe is on to identify marijuana cultivators. Police are continuously conducting barangay visitation and information operations to boost anti-illegal drugs campaign, the police regional information office said.

 
 Stolen motorbike leads to wanted man’s arrest

BAGUIO CITY — A recovered stolen motorcycle has led to the arrest of a wanted man here recently.
    The suspect, who was not named was a 31-year-old male and resident here of Barangay Bakakeng Central.
    A police report said the missing motorcycle was bought and pawned in San Fernando, La Union, later positively identified by the owner.
    San Fernando is around 2-hour drive from here.
    Upon recovering the motorcycle, authorities traced location of suspect, who was later identified by the police as Abanao police station’s most wanted person for the fourth quarter of 2023 and the top 8 most wanted person in Baguio City.
    Through arrest warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court First Judicial Region, the accused was arrested.
    He was taken in police custody and now facing charges for violating the New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016.
 

4 Cagayan folks yield guns explosives entrusted by NPA

TABUK CITY — Four civilians asked by New People’s Army guerillas to keep some firearms and explosives safe appeared before soldiers and surrendered the items they possessed within the day.
    A press statement by the 5th Infantry Division, Philippine Army, said the surrender transpired  Oct. 16.
    Two civilians from Villa Cielo, Buguey, were said to be the first ones to surrender a capto-type improvised explosive device (IED).
    The civilians said the explosive was given to them by ‘Alyas Marvin’ of the Komiteng Rehiyon Cagayan Valley.
Another individual also surrendered two IEDs along with an improvised shotgun with ammunition.
    The person, whose
 identity was kept secret, was a former supporter of KRCV and served as  runner for the group.
    Meanwhile, another civilian from Alucao, Sta. Teresita submitted a Cal. 45 pistol with ammunition and magazine.
The 5th ID said they were open and ready to help rebels who want to get back to the fold of government.
 

Man requests police clearance; ends up behind bars in Baggao

BAGGAO, Cagayan – A 48-year-old man who visited Baggao Municipal Police Station to obtain a police clearance recently ended up in jail after police arrested him after finding out he had a pending criminal case filed against him in 2013.
    The suspect, whose name was withheld, was a Baggao resident.
    Police said they immediately arrested the suspect after a check on the police database showed he had outstanding arrest warrant dated Feb. 6, 2013.
    The accused had a pending arrest warrant issued by Bill D. Buyucan, Municipal Trial Court  judge of Bagabag-Diadi, Nueva Vizcaya, for charges of reckless imprudence and negligence resulting in double homicide and serious physical injuries.
    The case had a recommended bail of P60,000.
    The suspect was detained at the Baggao Police Station.

13 wanted persons nabbed in Cordi; no crime in 54 towns

CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet -- Thirty-nine  wanted persons, including seven listed most wanted persons (MWP) were arrested in Cordillera , while 54 municipalities in the region recorded zero crime incidents from September 17 to 23, the regional police information office said.
    Records of Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division bared Benguet Police Provincial Office recorded the highest number of arrests, with 12, followed by the Baguio City Police Office with 9; Ifugao PPO, 6; Apayao PPO, 5; Abra and Kalinga PPOs with 3 each  and one by Mt. Province PPO.
    Of the seven persons listed as MWP, six were most wanted at municipal level and one provincial.
    Meanwhile, as a result of the intensified police presence, 54 municipalities in the region and one police station in Baguio City recorded zero crime incidents in these areas during the same week.
    Zero crime incidents were recorded in 22 municipalities in Abra, seven municipalities in Benguet, seven in Ifugao; five, Apayao, three, Kalinga and 10 in Mt. Province.
    In Baguio City, the Marcos Highway police station 10 also recorded zero crime incidents out of 10 police stations in Baguio City.
 

Construction worker shot dead in Ilocos Sur

SAN VICENTE, Ilocos Sur – A construction worker was gunned down in Barangay Bayubay Norte here on night of Sept. 25.
    Police identified the victim as Renan Lofredo Revoltiado, 41, resident of Barangay San Julian Norte, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur.
    The victim was shot with a caliber .45 pistol based on the recovered empty shell from the crime scene.
    Investigators are reviewing closed-circuit television cameras in the area to identify the suspect.

P40-M marijuana burned in Cordillera; 17 arrested

POLICE ROUNDUP 

CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet -- Authorities discovered more than P40.5 million worth of marijuana in Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga and Mount Province recently while 17 persons were arrested for illegal drugs, the regional police information office bared in a report.
    The discovery included over 163,000 fully grown marijuana plants, seedlings, and dried leaves, all of which were burned by the police after documentation.
    His, as the Cordillera Regional Operations Division bared 17 persons were arrested in possession of 10.69 grams of shabu worth P135,728.
    The PIO report said eight arrests were made by Baguio City Police Office followed by Kalinga Police Provincial Office with four; Abra and Benguet PPOs with two (2) arrests each, and Mt.  Province PPO with one arrest. 
    Suspects were identified as Pierre Miles Meepegama, 24, Exel Baro, 43, Juvina Baro, 49, Ryan Carino, 41, Rolly Alban, 42, Mateo Tolingan, 42, Crisanto Vega, 45, Sharon Grace Espita, 47, Greg Espita, 43, Annabelle Omawas, 50, Jovan Pugong, 48, Alvin Orbase, 28, Ronald Quinto, 31, Virgilio Rosadino, 53, Thaike Francisco, 29 and two female minors. 
    All arrested suspects and confiscated pieces of evidence were brought to their respective arresting units, while charges for violating the R.A. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, is being prepared against them.
    Meanwhile, 21 marijuana plantations  with total of 163, 425 fully grown marijuana plants, 650 marijuana seedlings, 50, 000 dried marijuana worth P 40, 511, 000.were discovered in Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, and Mt. Province. 
    These were all burned by operatives after documentation.
    Follow-up operations are being conducted to identify marijuana cultivators.
    The PIO report said police officers conducting continuous barangay visitation and information dissemination on anti-illegal drugs campaign of the PNP. 
    In recent months, marijuana busts worth millions of pesos have been made in the region.
    Last month, more than P149 million worth of marijuana was seized by police in Kalinga and Benguet; and in April, P6.8 million worth of marijuana was seized by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Baguio.
    Cordillera police have been taking proactive measures to curb illegal drug use at the barangay level, in line with the Philippine National Police’s anti-drug campaigns.
    “The police are continuously conducting barangay visitation and information operations regarding the anti-illegal drugs campaign of the PNP,” Brig. Gen. David Peredo Jr., PROCor director, said in a statement.
 

PDEA nets P231-K shabu in Baguio City drug den

BAGUIO CITY – Three suspected drug pushers were arrested while shabu worth P231,000 was seized in a drug den raid in Purok 3, Barangay Upper Dagsian, here August 21.
    The Philippine Drug Enforcement Unit-Cordillera identified suspects as Dominador Baddal Padcayan Sr., Cynthia Mercado Mabalot and Rowel Licoben Bumidang.
    Seized from the suspects were 34 heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing suspected shabu weighing around 40 grams valued at P231,200, drug paraphernalia, three keypad cellular phones and an android cellular phone.
    The PDEA said they have been following Padcayan and Mabalot who live in the house and use the place as a drug den for a long time.

 
52 wanted persons nabbed; no crime in 54 Cordi towns

CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet – Fifty-two wanted persons, including eight individuals listed as most wanted persons, were arrested in Cordillera August 13 to 19. The regional police information office said.
    Records of Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division of Police Regional Office-Cordillera bared Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) arrested 18 wanted persons, followed by the Benguet Police Provincial Office (PPO) with 15, Abra PPO with six, Ifugao PPO with five, Mountain Province PPO and Kalinga PPO with three each and Apayao PPO with two.
    Of the eight most wanted persons, two were most wanted personalities on the provincial level, one on the municipal level, and five on the station level, the regional police information office said.
    Police Brig. Gen. David Peredo Jr., PRO-Cordillera chief, said due to intensified police presence, 54 municipalities in the region and two police stations in Baguio City recorded zero crime incidents in the week.
    No crimes were logged in 22 out of 27 municipalities in Abra, five out of seven in Apayao, seven out of 13 in Benguet, four out of seven in Kalinga, nine out of 11 in Ifugao, and seven out of 10 in Mountain Province.
    Stations 8 (Kennon Road) and 10 (Marcos Highway) also recorded zero crime incidents out of 10 police stations in Baguio City. 

Pangasinan town cleared of drugs; 7 more to follow

ASINGAN, Pangasinan – This municipality has been cleared of illegal drugs and seven others are applying for cleared status, according to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Pangasinan provincial office.
    In an interview on Wednesday, PDEA Pangasinan director Retchie Camacho said Asingan as deliberated and cleared by the regional committee on Tuesday.
    He said Asingan town passed deliberation for having complied with the required Balay Silangan and all its barangays were cleared of illegal drug activities and personalities.
    “May Balay Silangan pero wala pang enrolled client since cleared na nga silang lahat (They have their Balay Silangan but there were no enrolled client since they were already cleared) but Balay Silangan is one of the requirements of the municipalities for their drug-cleared status,” he added.
    He said there will be continuous monitoring even in the drug-cleared localities.
Asingan is yet to formalize its drug-cleared status in a ceremony to be held in their town.
    Meanwhile, seven municipalities in the province are applying for drug-cleared status since all their barangays were already drug-cleared and they just need to comply with documentary requirements and pass the deliberation, Camacho said.
    These are the towns of Agno, Bautista, Binalonan, Bolinao, San Fabian, San Nicolas, and Umingan.
    The PDEA Pangasinan is constantly coordinating with the local government units in the province to be able to assist them in achieving a drug-cleared status, he said.
    He said the remaining eight towns and four cities in the province that are not yet cleared mostly have only one each remaining affected village.

Police find NPA camp in Mt Prov

BESAO, Mountain Province – Police found another abandoned New People’s Army encampment here in Barangay Suquib on August 16. Reports to Cordillera police director Brig. Gen. David K. Peredo Jr. said police under Mt. province police chief Col. Sibly Dawiguey Jr.  with personnel from the Regional Intelligence Division (RID), Regional Intelligence Unit-14 (RIU-14), 143 Special Action Company (SAC), 14 Special Action Battalion (SAB) of the PNP Special Action Force (SAF), and the Naval Intelligence Security Group-North Luzon (NISG NL) discovered the encampment while conducting patrol operations.
    Police seized flags marked CPP NDF (Communist Party of the Philippines, "Armas, Makibaka, Bagong Hukbong Bayan (BHB) and Leonardo Pacsi Command, an M16 A1 rifle, portable radio; five M14 magazines, clothes; educational paraphernalia and personal belongings believed to be owned by members of communist rebels at said camp.
    All said items were turned over to Besao police station for disposition.
    To date, said police units are searching adjacent areas of the CTG encampment, the regional police information office said. 
 

4 nabbed for shabu in Cordi provinces

CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet -- Four drug personalities are facing charges for illegal drugs after they were arrested in buy-bust operations in Cordillera August 14.
    Based on the reports submitted to Cordillera police director Brig. Gen. David K. Peredo Jr., the arrested suspects were identified as Exel Gandeza Baro, 43; Juvina Osud Baro, 49, Rolly Navia Alban, 41and Ryan Pajardo Carino, 41, the regional police information office said in a report.
    In Abra, suspects Exel and Juvina were arrested by elements of Abra Police Provincial Office and Regional Mobile Force Battalion 15 after they sold a sachet of suspected "shabu" weighing around 0.16 grams worth P1,020 to a cop who posed as buyer.
    Another suspected "shabu" weighing 0.16 grams valued at P1,020 was confiscated from suspects.
    Arresting police said the suspects were newly identified drug personalities.
    They were both under surveillance for months before their arrest.
    In Benguet, elements of Benguet Police Provincial Office, Regional Intelligence Division and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Cordillera arrested Carino after he sold a sachet of suspected "shabu" weighing around 0.37 grams worth P2,516.
    In Baguio City, Alban was captured by joint operatives of the City Drug Enforcement Unit, Camdas Police Station, City Intelligence Unit and RID-COR after he sold a sachet of suspected "shabu" weighing around 1.87 grams worth P12,375.
    Inventory of confiscated items was witnessed by representatives from Dept. of Justice, barangays and media.
    Suspects were brought into the custody of arresting police units.

2 men nabbed for shabu in Baguio, Benguet

CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet -- Two high-value individuals were arrested last week in Baguio and Benguet.
    Citing records from the PRO Cordillera's Regional Operations Division, the regional police information office bared the two drug suspects were arrested in possession of 3.17 grams of suspected shabu valued at P21,555.
    The two suspects were identified as Edward Oximana Neri, 34 and Michael Agsicio Dilan, 28.
Both suspects are now under the custody of arresting units and are facing charges for violation of the provisions of R.A. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

 Bus hits trike; woman dies in P’sinan crash

BINALONAN, Pangasinan — A woman died after her motorcycle was hit by a bus in this town on August 12.
    Sarah Jane Paringit, 29, was traveling along the highway in Barangay Bued when she figured in the accident.
    Police arrested bus driver Stephen Fiarawe, 40, of the Pangasinan Solid North Bus Transit.
    The bus reportedly tried to overtake, causing it to hit the motorcycle.

P149 million marijuana destroyed in Cordillera

POLICE ROUNDUP

CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet – Cordillera police director Brig. Gen. David Peredo said a total of P149,218,092 worth of illegal drugs were destroyed while 10 drug personalities were arrested in anti-illegal drugs operations conducted July 16 to 23 under Oplan Herodotus.
    Citing records from police Regional Operations Division, a total of P149,145,400 worth of marijuana plants was discovered and destroyed during the 8-day anti-illegal drugs operations. 
    The same report bared 29 marijuana eradication operations were conducted by joint operatives of PROCor, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Cordillera and PNP Drug Enforcement Group destroying a total of 693,615 fully grown marijuana plants, 35,560 marijuana seedlings and 75,000 grams of dried marijuana leaves and stalks in the provinces of Benguet and Kalinga. 
    Meanwhile, 10 drug personalities were arrested after they were caught in possession of a total of 10.69 grams of shabu, worth P72,692.00 in Baguio, Benguet and Abra, the regional police information office said. 
    Suspects were identified as:  Reynato Soriano, 23; Hercules Verzola, 24; Froilan Ringor, 31; Billie Quinto, 31; Wilmer Lizardo, 33; Willyn Sendico, 28; Jaysie Liked, 32; Herceb Cadicoy, 44;  Ritchie Delos Reyee, 3; and a 17-year old minor.
Cordillera police previously implemented Oplan Herodotus 1 Sept. 23–29, 2021, destroying 2,405,350 fully grown marijuana plants and 1,640,000 grams of dried marijuana.
    Oplan Herodotus 2 was conducted Feb. 23–March 9, 2022, destroying 1,952,435 fully grown marijuana plants and 940,869.24 grams of dried marijuana. 
    Peredo Jr. commended efforts of operating units in  intensified anti-illegal drugs campaign in the region, saying there was significant reduction in the number of discovered fully grown marijuana plants compared to  data from the previous years which meant the anti- illegal drugs operations efforts proved effective.

68 wanted persons nabbed; no crime in 57 Cordillera towns

CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet -- Police arrested 63 persons including 13 “most wanted personalities”  July 16 to 22 in Cordillera, police the regional information office said.
    Based on the records from the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division,  Baguio City Police Office  recorded the most number of arrests with 18followed by the Benguet Police Provincial Office with 16, Kalinga PPO with nine; Ifugao, 6; Abra and Mountain Province with five each and Apayao with four.
    Of those arrested, 13 individuals were listed as most wanted persons.
    Meanwhile, as a result of the intensified police presence, 57 municipalities in different provinces of the region and three police stations in Baguio City posted zero crime incidents during the same week.
    No crime incidents were recorded in 23 municipalities in Abra; six towns in Apayao, seven in Benguet, five in Kalinga, eight in Ifugao and eight towns in Mountain Province.
    In Baguio City, the Camdas, Loakan and Aurora Hill police stations lso recorded zero crime incidents out of 10 police stations in Baguio City.

P140.9-M marijuana burned in Tinglayan

TINGLAYAN, Kalinga --Police and anti-narcotics agents burned destroyed more than P140.9 million worth of marijuana plants  uprooted from five plantation sites here last week.
Kalinga Police Provincial Office said a total of 754,250 fully grown marijuana plants were discovered and eradicated from five villages in this remote town.
    The joint operation led to burning of 32,500 fully grown marijuana plants, including 70,000 stalks and 30,000 seedlings of the illegal plant worth P16.1 million in Sitio Balay, Tulgao West.
    A total of 96,000 fully grown marijuana plants valued at P19.32 million was burned in Barangay Butbut Proper while 245,000 marijuana plants worth P49,000,000 were uprooted in Barangay Bugnay.
    In Barangay Buscalan, 122,250 marijuana worth P24,450,000 were burned while 160,400 marijuana plants valued at P32,080,000 were uprooted in Barangay Loccong.
     "In support to PNP Cordillera's campaign to rid the cultivation of marijuana plants and preventing it from reaching the urban areas, the Kalinga PPO is determined to totally eradicate illegal plants in the province," Kalinga PPO director Col. Charles Domallig said.

P83-M illegal drugs seized, 10 arrested 

CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet – Cordillera police seized P83,808,092.00 worth of illegal drugs and nabbed 10 drug personalities in anti-illegal drug operations July 16 to 22.
    Records from the police Regional Operations Division bared 10 drug personalities were arrested after they were caught in possession of 10.69 grams of shabu worth P72,692.
    The same report disclosed five arrests were made by Benguet police followed by Baguio City Police Office with threes, and  Abra with two.
    The suspects were identified as Reynato Soriano, 23; Hecules Verzola, 24; Froilan Ringor, 31; Nollie Quinto, 31; Kurt Delmas, 17; Wilmer Lizardo, 33; Willyn Sendico, 28; Jaysie Liked, 32; Hercen Cadicoy, 44; and Ritchie Delos Reyes, 35.
    All arrested suspects and confiscated pieces of evidence were brought to  respective arresting units, where charges for illegal drugs were prepared against them.
    Meanwhile, in marijuana eradication operations, 20 marijuana plantations with a total of 372, 565 fully grown marijuana plants, 5,560 seedlings, 70, 000 leaves and fruiting tops and 5, 000 stalks all worth P83,735,400 were discovered in the provinces of Kalinga and Benguet.
    These were all burned by lawmen after documentation even as police launched operations to locate cultivators.
    Police are conducting barangay information drives against illegal drugs.

P190-K drugs seized, 4 held in Kalinga, Abra 

CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet -- Four drug personalities arrested in buy-bust operations in Abra and Kalinga on August 1-2 are now facing charges for illegal drugs, the regional information office bared in a report.
    Police records submitted to Cordillera police director Brig. Gen. David K. Peredo Jr. identified the suspects as Allan Velasco Agod, 28; Jimmy Santiago Moscoso, 65; Marcelino Sanidad Cabanilla Jr., 56 and Raul Bernardez Belmes, 37. 
    In Tabuk City, Kalinga, Agod and Moscoso were arrested by elements of Kalinga Police Provincial Office and Philippine Drug Enforcement (PDEA) after they sold five sachets containing suspected shabu weighing around 0.5 grams worth P3,400 and marijuana leaves weighing 1,000 grams worth P 120,000 to a lawman who acted as buyer.
    In Abra, suspects Cabanilla Jr. and Belmes were arrested by anti-illegal drugs operatives of the Abra Provincial Police Office after they sold a sachet of suspected shabu weighing five grams worth P34,000 to a cop. Another suspected shabu weighing 5.5 grams valued at P37,400 was also seized from them.
    Inventory of seized items was witnessed by suspects and representatives from the Department of Justice, media, and elected barangay officials.

2 held for drugs; Sadanga ‘grass’ plantation found 

CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet – Police arrested two “high-value individuals” in anti-illegal drugs operations in Abra and Kalinga last week.
    The police Regional Operations Division identified suspects as Gerardo Guillermo Sebastian, 55 and Real Gold Boclongan Olsim, 34.
    Both suspects are now under the custody of their respective arresting units and now facing charges illegal drugs.
    Meanwhile, in anti-illegal drug operation in Mountain Province, a marijuana plantation site was discovered in Sadanga town.
    Sadanga police discovered 63 fully-grown marijuana plants worth P12,600.
    All marijuana plants and seedlings were uprooted and burned at the plantation by police while investigation is on to identify cultivators of marijuana in plantation sites.
 

 24 persons held in Cordi; 68 towns post no crime

CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet – Police arrested 24 wanted persons, while 68 Cordillera municipalities recorded zero crime incidents from July 23 to 29.
    Based on records from PROCOR's Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division, Baguio City Police Office recorded highest number of arrests with 10 followed by Benguet PPO with four, Kalinga and Mountain Province PPOs with three each with Abra and Ifugao PPOs with two arrests each, the regional police information office said.
    Of the arrested personalities, four were listed most wanted persons of whom two were listed at provincial and two city levels.
    Meanwhile, as a result of the intensified police presence, 68 municipalities in the region and six police stations in Baguio City recorded zero crime incidents during the same week.
    Zero crime incidents were recorded in 26 municipalities in Abra, six  municipalities in Apayao, 10 towns in Benguet, five towns in Kalinga, 11 in Ifugao; and 10 towns in Mountain Province.

2 cops found dead with bullet wounds inside Ilocos Sur PNP station

NARVACAN, Ilocos Sur – Two police officers were found dead inside the Narvacan Municipal Police Station here Thursday, July 20.
    The fatalities were identified as Corporal Jeric Ace Abaoag and Patrolman Joe Mendoza.
Initial investigation said gunshots were heard moments after they went up to the third floor of the police station with their belongings.
    Colleagues found their bodies which bore bullets wounds.

Col. Jugith del Prado, Ilocos Sur police director, said Mendoza was reportedly feeling stressed before the incident.

Del Prado theorized that Mendoza shot Abaoag before killing himself using a Cal. 9mm pistol.

Municipal police are investigating the incident.

P14.4-M marijuana seized in Kalinga, Benguet; 3 held

TINGLAYAN, Kalinga -- Marijuana worth P13 million discovered in two plantation sites in Barangay Buscalan, Tinglayan,Kalinga were uprooted and destroyed recently.
    Police have launched a manhunt for the cultivators of the marijuana plantations.
    Meanwhile, 7,150 fully grown marijuana plants worth P1,430,000 were discovered in four plantations in Bakun and Kibungan towns of Benguet.
    The operatives burned the illegal drugs after documentation.
    This brought the total of confiscated marijuana to P14.430,000
    This, as three drug personalities were nabbed in Benguet July 2 to 8.
    The police Regional Operations Division bared the three were arrested after they were caught in possession of shabu worth P2,720 by police.
    Arrested were Jeramel Caday, 22 years old; Gilbert Pascual, 31 and Marlon Yuzon, 28.
    All arrested suspects and confiscated pieces of evidence were brought to their respective arresting units, while charges for violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, is being prepared against them.
 
 

Cops nab 25 wanted persons; 66 Corditowns post no crime

CA MP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet – Police arrested 25 wanted persons in manhunt operations in the Cordillera from July 2 to 8.
    The Police Regional Office-Cordillera Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division said the Baguio City Police Office arrested 14, followed by the Kalinga Provincial Police Office with six; Ifugao PPO with three and Abra and Benguet with one each.
    Brig. Gen. David Peredo Jr., Cordillera police director, said as a result of intensified police presence, 66 municipalities in provinces of the region and four police stations in Baguio City recorded zero crime incidents during the week.
    Zero crime incidents were recorded in 24 out of 27 municipalities in Abra, six out of six in Apayao, 12 out of 13 in Benguet, five out of seven in Kalinga, nine out of 11 in Ifugao, and all 10 municipalities in Mountain Province.
    Out of the 10 police stations here, the BCPO Stations 1, 2, 4, and 6 recorded zero crime.
 
 
Defective weighing scales seized in Baguio markets

BAGUIO CITY – The crackdown against unscrupulous market vendors using uncalibrated and defective weighing scales is on here to protect consumers from getting products with inaccurate weight.
    A total of 872 uncalibrated weighing scales have been confiscated by the City Market Division and the Public Order and Safety Division from June 1 to July 4 this year, Aileen Refuerzo, chief information officer of the city government, said in a phone interview on Monday.
    She said 37 defective weighing scales were confiscated on July 4 alone.
    The campaign started in 2022 after the city received several complaints from local buyers and tourists about the inaccurate weight of items bought from market sellers.
    The defective weighing scales were confiscated at Block 3 of Hilltop Market and at Kayang stores in the city’s main market.
    Of the newly confiscated weighing scales, most were found to be inaccurate and possibly tampered.
Weighing scales are calibrated by the Department of Trade and Industry to ensure the accuracy of the weight of items purchased by consumers.
    The city maintains weighing scales near the market division office which the public can use in verifying the weight of items bought.
    Among the subjects of operation were some sari-sari (retail) stores selling fruits, vegetables and meat that were complained about by residents.
    “Hindi lang sa palengke ito ginagawa, pati na rin sa mga talipapa at sari-sari store para masiguro natin na walang nadadayang mga kababayan namin na namimili kasi nagbabayad din naman ng tama ang mga buyer kaya dapat lang na mabigyan sila ng tamang timbang ng binibili nila (The operation is not confined at the main public market but also in village markets and neighborhood stores to assure that buyers are not cheated. Couple found dead in Nueva Vizcaya

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya -- A farmer and his wife were found dead here Tuesday due to multiple hack wounds inside their farm.
    The police said in a report on Wednesday, July 12, the bodies of Carlos Bala-wa, 53, and his wife Julie, 52, were found at the farm in Sitio (sub-village) Kalingkingan in Barangay Buenavista.
    The couple went to their farm in Buenavista to repair the hose which supplies water to the forest area, investigations revealed.
    The couple’s son-in-law, who was not identified in the report, went to the farm after the couple failed to return home.
    He was the one who found the bodies.
    Captain Manny Pawid, Nueva Vizcaya police spokesperson, said in a statement on Wednesday that a deeper probe was ongoing and a person of interest had been identified.
    The person’s name, however was not disclosed as investigation on the matter was ongoing..
    The police said they had no idea yet on the motive in the killing.
 

2 nabbed, P72-K shabu, MJ seized in Cordillera

CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet – Police arrested two suspected drug pushers and seized P32,400 worth of shabu in anti-illegal drug operations in  Abra and Benguet Wednesday, July 19, a regional police information office report here said.
    Cordillera police director Brig. Gen. David Peredo Jr., identified the suspects as Wilmer Lizardo, 33 and Jaysie Singwayan, 32.
    Lizardo was arrested in Bucay, Abra after he sold a sachet of suspected shabu worth P5,100 to a lawman who posed as buyer.
    Singwayan was nabbed in Buguias, Benguet after he yielded three sachets of suspected shabu valued at P27,336 during implementation of a search warrant  in his residence.
    Meanwhile, 200 fully grown marijuana plants worth P40,000 were discovered by the police in a marijuana eradication operation in Sitio Macagang, Kayapa, Bakun, Benguet.
    All marijuana plants were uprooted and burned in the area while  investigation was conducted to identify cultivators.

29 high-powered guns seized from  Ifugao, Mt Province NPA guerillas

BAGUIO CITY -- Two suspected members of the communist New People's Army (NPA), 29 high-powered weapons and war materiel were presented to Defense Sec. Gilberto "Gibo" Teodoro Jr.,     Northern Luzon Command chief Lt. Gen. Fernyl Buca, members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and Cordillera Regional Peace and Order Council at a recent meeting at the Convention Center here.
    Authorities identified the two NPA rebels as alias Ampoc/Lipat and alias Ronron.
    They earlier pointed to members of the 5th Infantry Division an arms cache containing 19 high-caliber guns in Besao, Mountain Province and 10 in Ifugao province.
    Confiscated in Besao were 16 M16 rifles, a Galil rifle, two M653 rifles and various ammunition.
In Ifugao, seized were seven M16 rifles, one M14 rifle, one M653 rifle, one M203 grenade launcher, improvised explosive devices, hand grenades and various ammunition.
    Alias Ampoc/Lipat said he left the NPA because he could no longer bear the hardships of being a combatant.
    He cited programs and services implemented by government agencies in the Cordillera Administrative Region.
    Teodoro urged NPA fighters to join mainstream society saying it was
time to unite and bring peace in the country. 

3 minors held for theft of gadgets in N. Vizcaya school

VILLAVERDE, Nueva Vizcaya – Four persons, including three minors, were arrested by the police for robbing the library of the Bintawan National High School in Bintawan Sur here of gadgets on Wednesday, July 19.
    Police arrived at the crime scene and saw blood on the floor.
    They scoured medical facilities here and found the suspects
    Two 17-year-old suspects were apprehended when they admitted involvement in the crime through a discernment test by social workers.
    Their 14-year-old companion was also taken into custody and will be turned over to the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office here for appropriate intervention.
    The fourth suspect of legal age will undergo inquest proceedings for the crime of robbery.
    Police said the suspects carted away 14 tablets and three laptops. However, only seven tablets and two laptops with an estimated value of P301,000 were recovered by authorities.
    Police Brig. Gen. Percival Rumbaoa, Police Regional Office-2 director, lauded the immediate response of Villaverde PNP on the incident.
    “It is a testament that Villaverde Police Station is committed in the conduct of aggressive law enforcement operations which is encapsulated in the five-focused agenda of the Chief PNP in ensuring the safety and security of the community,” Rumbaoa said.

P’sinan kagawad nabbed for guns

BAYAMBANG, Pangasinan -- A barangay councilman was arrested for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition here Tuesday.
    Salvador Bautista, 45, of Barangay Pangdel was apprehended after a raid on his house yielded a Cal. 45 pistol and bullets.
    The raid was based on a search warrant issued by a local court.
    The Civil Security Group of the Philippine National Police  earlier said barangay officials own about 50 percent of loose firearms in the country.
    The PNP has intensified its operations against loose firearms in preparation for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections on Oct. 30.

BAGUIO CITY -- A total of P374,000 worth of suspected shabu was confiscated from two “high-value drug personalities” in a buy-bust operation here July 11.
    Reports submitted to Cordillera police director Brig. Gen. David K. Peredo Jr. identified those arrested as Rasmia Balang Ebra, 29 and Adonis De Guzman Abad, 35, both Tarlac residents.
    The report said joint anti-illegal drugs operatives of the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit, Regional Intelligence Division, Baguio City Police Office and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, arrested the suspects after they sold 10 sachets of suspected shabu weighing 50 grams worth P340,000 to a cop who acted as buyer.
    During their arrest, another sachet containing suspected shabu weighing around five grams and valued at P34,000 were confiscated from the suspects.
    Inventory of confiscated items was witnessed by suspects and Barangay Kagawad Cristine Valente of Barangay Burnham-Legarda and Darius Bajo, media representative.
    Suspects and confiscated items were brought to the custody of CDEU for documentation while charges for violating Republic Act 9165 or  Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 were prepared against them.

Cordillera CIDG men arrest wanted persons

BAGUIO CITY -- Following tips received from private informants, the long arm of the law finally caught Ernesto Ladio Dumling June 2 at the Camella Homes Subdivision in Candon, Ilocos Sur after more than a decade of evading arrests.
     Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), Baguio City Field Unit led by Maj. Jayrold D. Oribillo arrested the top most wanted person (TMWP) provincial level by virtue of warrant of arrest for frustrated homicide.
     Edilberto T. Claravall, then Presiding Judge of RTC Branch 60 in Baguio who issued the WOA more than 10 years ago recommended P120,000 bail for temporary release of the suspect.
    Afternoon of June 16 at Barangay Dontogan, Baguio City; the same CIDG team arrested TMWP provincial level Jun Galang Caniezo by virtue of WOA issued on June 14 by Rufus G Malecdan Jr., presiding judge of RTC Branch 60 in Baguio City for violation of section 5, Republic Act 9165 for service of sentence.
    Last week, dawn of June 27 in Mankayan, Benguet, provincial operatives led by Maj. James B. Kibiten Jr. implemented search warrant no. 2023- 0101-D issued by Mervin Jovito S. Samadan, executive judge of RTC First Judicial Region, Dagupan City for violation of RA 10591(Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).
     The SW was implemented under close supervision of CIDG Cordillera regional director Col. Reynaldo L. Lizardo, leading to the arrest of Ronnie Galiga Caluza after confiscating from his possession and control a Cal. 38 revolver with defaced serial number, a Cal. 22 North America Arms Black Widow Magnum, live ammunitions and accessories.
     Lizardo said, the agency will continue to conduct police operations for violators of RA 10591 to prevent the commission of crimes involving the use of firearms especially this coming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) in October. 

 

Taxi driver nabbed in Baguio raid

BAGUIO CITY – A taxi driver listed as a high-value drug personality was arrested by city police and personnel of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency during a buy-bust operation at his rented house in Middle Quezon Hill here on Tuesday, June 27.
    The suspect was identified as Romer Marquez Ramos, 38, believed to be a member of a drug group.
Confiscated from the suspect were three sachets of suspected shabu weighing approximately four grams worth P27,200, tooter containing liquid traces of suspected shabu, buy-bust money, cash in different denominations totaling P6,030, driver's license card, and a cellphone.
    The marking and inventory of the confiscated pieces of evidence were conducted on-site in the presence of the suspect and duly witnessed by a representative from the Department of Justice and a barangay official.
    The suspect is facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Woman killed, husband hurt in P’sinan shooting

    URBIZTONDO, Pangasinan -- A 48-year-old woman was killed while her husband was seriously wounded in a shooting incident here in Barangay Malaca Monday night, June 26.
    Police identified the victims as Teresita, 48, and Porferio Monsad, residents of Barangay Real, Urbiztondo.
Investigation said the victims were traversing the Basista-Urbiztondo Road onboard a motorcycle when unidentified gunmen opened fire at them.
    The couple sustained multiple bullet wounds and were taken to the Jesus Healing Hands Hospital in Barangay Poblacion,     Urbiztondo and later transferred to the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital in San Carlos City.
    Teresita was declared dead-on-arrival while her husband is still under observation at the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital.
    The Urbiztondo police and nearby police stations have established dragnet checkpoint and chokepoint operation for the apprehension of the suspects.

17 wanted persons nabbed in Cordi; no crime in 69 towns

CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet – Police arrested 17 wanted persons, while 69 municipalities in Cordillera recorded zero crime from June 25 to July 1, the regional police information office bared.
    Based on records from Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division, Baguio City Police Office recorded highest number of arrests with 10, followed by Benguet Police Provincial Office with five and Kalinga and Mountain Province PPOs with one arrest each.
    Meanwhile, due to intensified police presence, 69 municipalities in the region and seven police stations in Baguio City posted zero crime incidents during the same week.
    No crime was recorded in 26 out of 27 municipalities in Abra; six out of seven towns in Apayao; 10 out of 13 in Benguet; nine out of 10 in Mountain Province and 11 of Ifugao and seven municipalities of Kalinga.
    In Baguio, police stations of Naguilian, Pacdal, Loakan, Legarda, Aurora Hill, Irisan and Marcos Highway also recorded zero crime incidents out of 10 police stations in the city.
 

P27.3 million drugs seized, 2 men held

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- A total of P27,342,800 worth of illegal drugs were seized during a weeklong operation that also resulted in the arrest of two drug personalities in Cordillera region.
    The operation was carried out by the Police Regional Office-Cordillera from June 25–July 1, 2023.
Regional Director Brig. General David Peredo, Jr said that six concealed marijuana plantation sites were discovered in the municipalities of Bakun and Kibungan, Benguet.
    A total of 230 pieces of fully grown marijuana plants, 6,400 pieces of marijuana seedlings and 225,000 grams of dried marijuana leaves and fruiting tops with an overall price of P27,302,000 were discovered from these sites.
    The raiding authorities readily uprooted and burned all the banned plants and products after the documentation.
    Records from the Regional Operations Division said the two personalities were arrested after they were caught in possession of a total of six grams of shabu with an overall price of P40,800.
    The same report disclosed that the arrest of the two alleged drug pushers identified as Felix Cammagay, 35, and Rany Marquez, 44, was made by the operatives of the Kalinga Police Provincial Office.
    All arrested persons and confiscated items were brought to respective arresting units, where charges were prepared against the suspects.
