BULL’S HIT
Rudy Garcia

BAGUIO CITY -- A widowed mother of two small kids is now crying for justice after her sari-sari store she used for her livelihood and shelter was demolished by the city buildings and architecture office, demolition department last Jan. 5. The mother claims it was an injustice done to her by the city and barangay officials who did everything to get her out from the 85 square meter lot along Leonard Wood Road.

The matter got me interested. Now I want to pose these questions to the city mayor, city legal office, CBAO and the barangay if there was due course or process done before the demolition? was the respondent properly heard and given chance to present her side?

Are the complainants, the Salud Mitra Barangay and Inter Island Realty Corp. also violating the same rules they are complaining against the respondent? Why were her pleas for review ignored? Is it true that there was an attempted “buy-out” for the respondent to move out from her place before the demolition?

Was it standard rule to demolish a small structure and ransack belongings inside even without the owner and subject structure is closed? Was the “Lina Law” properly observed and followed? Why the hush-rush to implement demolition? Was there connivance between some city and barangay officials and the Inter Island Realty Corp.? How much was involved?

How come the small sari-sari store was demolished but those big adjoining establishments and properties that are similar to the situation were not? Was there an intention to grab the land from the poor woman who was supposedly the lawful claimant being the first applicant of this public or government lot?

This issue needs attention and concerned officials have to explain. We are digging more of this and expect more updates on next issues of this column..

The blessed people who now sit at city hall and have been acting like gods and goddesses seldom seen on their thrones are now acting like meek lambs while election time comes nearer. They are now always there at city hall to entertain and shaking hands withj everyone.

They have suddenly become pangmasa from being pro-elite in the past. Whew! How election turns these politicians to change their fake colors overnight. But I bet, their true colors would eventually come out after election. Better still, don’t be deceived by these pul-pulitikos. Beware!

Guess who this Baguio lady councilor who got the opportune time to shake hands with the public during a Christmas gift giving by the Office of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo last December at city hall grounds. This councilor made paseksi and shook hands with everyone lined up for the gifts.

Nothing wrong perhaps, but it was obvious she was already starting to campaign for herself on this coming election. Maybe, she found it an advantage to use the event to advance her political campaign for free. Delicadeza? Well perhaps she has only a little or none at all!.

Simply put, but I am now thinking of putting up a cleansing business at Baguio City Hall, or maybe to apply as sales agent of hand sanitizers. This could surely bring me good income and those officials who always wash their hands in public would be my regular clients with no sweat at all!

Have you noticed that there is now a lot of finger pointing and hand-washing after scandals came out one after the other? Thanks to those PR managers who are also doing a good job to include media practitioners who are on the payroll.

But hey, I have a better idea of cleansing out those insects and crocs swarming at every nook and cranny at city hall. Instead of hand sanitizers, why don’t we try tons of muriatic acid to get rid of all of them? I bet it would be the best. No more pests, crocs or garbage at city hall. Only good new breed of leaders, so why don’t we stand and be counted, change oil, err… I mean, change all?

My salute goes to PO3 Gerome Soriano and his superior police captain Nestor V. Carino of COMPAC I Station 7 of the Baguio City Police Office. They are those few men in uniform who set the example that we still have good cops, and proving to us that no one is above the law. No other than my bubwit witnessed their dedication to duty.

It happened when PO3 Soriano cleared Kayang, Zandueta, and Hilltop of vehicles obstructing the roads. Last Jan. 4, Soriano made no exceptions, not even a police mobile car parked along the road.

What irked my bubwit was this certain Mrs. Alabanza who in an arrogant manner cursed PO3 Soriano when the latter was removing here vehicle plate because of obstruction. Despite the seeming arrogance and anger of Alabanza, Soriano went on to remove the plate and submitted it at their office in BAMARVA.

From there, Alabanza continued shouting at Soriano and Capt. Cariño. However the two cops kept their cool and explained to Alabanza that that they were only doing their job. This Alabanza accordingly even banged the plate vehicle on a table near but Soriano stood pat in confiscating the plate.

If all our cops would are like PO3 Gerome Soriano and Capt. Nestor. V. Carino, I see no reason for a better a Baguio. To the two policemen, kudos po sa inyo and more power!
