BONTOC, Mountain Province – Cabinet Secretary Silvestre Bello III will be the guest of honor and speaker during the 18th founding anniversary of the Mountain Province State Polytechnic College here on Jan. 18.
The theme of this year’s simple but meaningful celebration is “Revitalizing Culture for Transformative Education.”
MPSPC, the only State-run higher education institution in this landlocked province, was established by virtue of Republic Act 7183 which was signed into law by former President Corazon C. Aquino on January 17, 1992.
Dr. Nieves A. Dacyon, MPSPC president, said the celebration of the school’s founding anniversary is another milestone which will help further bring the higher education institution to greater heights considering that it is also seeking to become one of the universities in the Cordillera in the future.
According to her, Bello, who is an Ilocano-speaking Cabinet official, has vast experience in terms of governance which he could share to the stakeholders of the institution, especially in their bid to be elevated to a higher status in the tertiary education level.
Among the activities lined up for the celebration of the school’s anniversary include agro-industrial fair, journalism seminar, cultural contests, sports activities, research and extension programs and projects and awarding of outstanding students and school employees.
Education stakeholders in the province are confident MPSPC will be able to attain its desired university status in the future so that it could enhance the delivery of effective, efficient and quality education to the youth from the cordillera, Ilocos and Cagayan Valley regions who prefer to enroll in the institution because of their trust and confidence to the present performance of the school in attending to the needs of its students.
Earlier, MPSPC officials revealed graduates of the institution improved their performances in several licensure examinations which were held last year which is an indication of the improving quality of education being given to the students coupled with the desire of graduates to become licensed professionals in order to land in good jobs.
Dacyon said having more graduates landing in descent employment and businesses is one of the major indicators of the success achieved by the institution, especially in increasing the productivity of people to be able to help in the development of their respective communities.
MPSPC was known after it pioneered the implementation of the full scholarship to bonafide residents of the province under the stewardship of the late Rep. Victor S. Dominguez who envisioned the program since education is still the best inheritance that parents and guardians could give to their children since it will not be easily taken away from them.
Dacyon said the aspiration of the institution for university hood has been getting the support of lawmakers from both chambers of Congress over the past several months.
