>> Monday, July 12, 2010
In line with its mission to contribute to national development and enhance the lives of the people within their host communities, Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation, Shell Retailer and Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc. bring the promise of a better future to North Luzon with a new batch of 59 Gas Mo, Bukas Ko scholars.
Pilipinas Shell has been involved in social investment programs for many years and the company believes that education plays a key role not just in uplifting the lives of individuals to become productive members of society, but also in helping move the country forward.
Gas Mo, Bukas Ko is a technical-vocational skills training program offered by Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation, the Association of Pilipinas Shell Dealers, Inc. and Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc. to forecourt attendants and other crew employed at Shell retail stations nationwide.
The programs seeks to provide a better future for Shell retail station staff through the conduct of capability-building programs that will enhance their employability and livelihood skills, as well as imbibe in them positive work values, and improve their general outlook in life.
It is also seen to improve the lives of scholars’ families and aid in the development of communities surrounding Shell retail station sites.
Gas Mo, Bukas Ko is a unique scholarship program. Prior to taking the vocation courses, the scholars undergo a Leadership Enhancement and Attitude Development (LEAD) workshop to uplift their morale and self-esteem. Shell dealers provide transportation allowance to the scholars while all supplies and materials that they need during the course of their studies are shouldered by Shell.
Since its inception in 2005, the Gas Mo, Bukas Ko initiative has benefited more than 600 Shell station staff.
