Mt Prov cited for health programs

BONTOC, Mountain Province — The Cordillera regional office of the Center for Health Development cited Mountain Province for “exemplary performance” in implementation of health programs in the province.

The regional health decision-makers’ forum is being conducted by the health department annually to improve performance of health sector in the region to cater to constituents’ health needs of six provinces and two cities comprising the Cordillera.

Mountain Province Gov. Leonardo Mayaen received a special award for measles surveillance since there were no measles cases the province that cited efforts of provincial and municipal health offices in curbing the illness.

St. Theodore’s Hospital in Sagada town was chosen as one among six hospitals in the region compliant to newborn screening facilities category.

Other hospitals cited include the Amma Jadsac District Hospital in Apayao, Bangued Christian Hospital in Abra, Dr. Petronilo V. Siares Memorial Hospital also in Abra, Mayoyao District Hospital in Ifugao, and Notre Dame de Cartes Hospital in Baguio City.

Three villages of Mountain Province received special awards and recognitions on best sanitation practices which help in encouraging residents to embark on a healthy living for a productive and better life ahead.

The awardees include Sta. Isabela in Natonin town, Lubo of Tadian town, and Bao-angan of Sabangan town.

Mayaen said awards given to sectors in the province will serve as an inspiration to provincial and municipal governments to strengthen the support being given to the health sector despite the meager resources to show to the people that they are not abandoning the commitment of local officials to support health programs.
