BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Domogan bared plans here last week to set up a tramline or cable cars to ply the central business district with base at Camp John Hay.

“The CBD would be made promenade area once the tramline is in place,” he said.

He added the tramline will serve not only the city but the BLISTT (Baguio-La Trinidad-Itogon-Sablan-Tuba-Tublay) area.

Other alternative routes within the area would also be looked into.

In a meeting, Domogan also gave approval for transport group representatives to join the Roadside Inspection Testing and Monitoring Teamm Clean Air Monitoring Unit, of City Environment Parks Management Office.

The matter was brought up during the weekly meeting of the Alay Sa Kalinisan, a multi-sectoral group for clean environment.

This action, the mayor said, is to give credence to the testing of diesel and gas-fed vehicles for the anti-smoke-belching campaign and validate the results of Private Emission Testing centers as with machines used by CEPMO.

This time, proper procedures in testing vehicles should be observed with transport representatives present.

The situation arose when vehicles tested in PETs were given clearances but failed during roadside testing done by the RITM-CAMU team.

Since June, the RITM-CAMU team randomly flagged down vehicles along city roads for testing with smoke-belching machines.

Those failing the machine tests should have their vehicles properly maintained and cleared before plying the roads.

The drive is done to clear the roads of smoke-belchers which endanger health of the public.

In addition, Jonie Itliong of the public transport group said local gas dealers should also present their products for quality testing.
