BSU celebrates 25th year as CAR state university

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- The Benguet State University here will celebrate its 25th year as a premier state university in the Cordillera and a pioneer of organic agriculture on Jan. 12-14 with the theme, “BSU: Sustaining commitment towards excellence.”

Highlights will be the opening program and awarding rites with Benguet Rep. Hon. Ronald M. Cosalan as guest speaker, opening of exhibits and the historical museum center for culture and arts and a stage play called “Tapaw” by the BSU dramatics club on Jan. 12.

BSU will open its doors to the community through various services the whole day of Jan. 13.

These services include dental and legal services, critical incidence stress debriefing, nutrition counselling, plant health clinic, soil testing analysis and anti-rabies vaccination.

There will also be a “Pinaka” farm produce competition, a bamboo demo hands-on in bamboo shoot processing (labong kimchi and pickles, basket weaving, and bamboo craft making, demo on fruit and vegetable carving by Lorna Lino of BSU-Bokod campus and an IPR seminar.

Farmers interested to join the plant health clinic and soil testing analyses are advised to bring soil and plant samples for free technical advice.

Those who will join the farm produce competition are advised to bring their best fresh produce for judging.

Prizes are at stake.

The celebration will be capped by a musical and dance extravaganza to be followed by the closing and awarding rites with Civil Service Commission regional director Fernando M. Porio as guest speaker on Jan. 14.

Department of Science and Technology regional deputy director Nancy A. Bantog, Benguet Gov. Nestor B. Fongwan, and La Trinidad Mayor Gregorio Abalos will also be guest speakers.
