Two men cheat death in Kalinga, Ifugao shootings

CAMP DANGWA, Benguet – Two men cheated death in separate shooting incidents April 24 in Kalinga and Ifugao.

Leon P. Tallejo, regional police information chief said in Tabuk City, Kalinga at about 8 a.m. that day, the victim identified as Manuel B. Sarol Sr., 56, married, and a resident of Dagupan West, Tabuk City was shot by his nephew identified as Joebi S. Candido, 24, married and a resident of same place at MB Sarol Aggregates and Machine Shop located at Dagupan West, Tabuk.

Police immediately responded and based on investigation it was disclosed that while the victim was supervising his son about his project, he noticed his nephew driving his motorcycle slowly along the road repeatedly passing by while observing him.

Moments later, the suspect returned and armed with a Cal. 38 revolver and without any warning, de pointed the gun and shot the victim at close range but missed instead hitting the steel plate then immediately fled.

Police are still conducting follow-up investigation to determine the motive of the incident and for subsequent arrest of the suspect.

In Kiangan, Ifugao at about 8:30 p.m. also on April 24, another victim identified as Alvin Pagaddut, 32, married, jobless and resident of Barangay Pindongan, was also shot by still unidentified suspect along the road of the barangay.

Investigation disclosed the victim together with some companions came from a picnic at Ambuwaya Lake but later parted.

The victim and a certain Jeremy Aliguyon however continued drinking at Cacliong’s store and after consuming one bottle of beer each, were about to go home when a certain Rustom Timbuloy came aboard a motorcycle and suddenly pointed his finger at the victim and sped off.

When they were on a dark portion of the road, a gunshot was heard resulting to the wounding of the left thigh of the victim.

He was immediately brought to the Ifugao Provincial Hospital his companion, where he was confined.

As of press time police were still trying to determine identity of the suspect.
