3 nabbed for child abuse, abortion

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union- The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group arrested last week a man who was charged with sexually molesting a minor and a couple engaged in abortion activities.
           
CIDG director Samuel D. Pagdilao said a CIDG team led by Chief Insp. Helson B. Walin and Senior Insp. Samson B. Pascual arrested the suspect identified as Jun Sumbad at the corner of Gov. Halili St. and Bulacan St. in Barangay Bagbaguin, Sta Maria, Bulacan.
           
Sumbad is on the list of most wanted persons in Region I and carries a reward of P90,000 under Department of Interior and Local Government Memorandum Circular No. 2010-54.
           
His arrest was based on an arrest warrant issued by the regional trial court of San Fernando City, La Union for child abuse.
           
"The accused was brought to Sta Maria Police Station, Bulacan Police Provincial Office and will be transported to Regional Intelligence Unit-1, San Fernando City, La Union for documentation prior turned over to the issuing court.
           
The suspect, in particular, is wanted for violation of  Republic Act 7610 or the Child Abuse Law of 1992.
           
The said section of the law punishes sexual abuse of children.
           
Meanwhile  Pagdilao said the CIDG nabbed Jocylin A. Balunan,, and Ensebio D. Bronola for violation of Art. 256 of the Revised Penal Code (internal abortion).
           
The two were apprehended by CIDG operatives led by Police Chief Insp. Fermin D. Armendarez III in an entrapment operation on May 30, 2012 in Barangay T. Padilla, Cebu City, following several reports on the group's illegal activities.
           
Seized from the suspects were various materials used for abortion, marked money and a mobile phone.
           
Pagdilao said the arrest of the suspects accused of child abuse, abortion and rape is part of the CIDG's campaign to protect the welfare of children and women in the country.
           
The operations against the suspects are part of the CIDG's campaign against most wanted persons dubbed "OplanPagtugis" --a flagship project aligned with the Philippine National Police's (PNP) 10-point action plan to reform the entire police community as outlined by PNP chief Police Director Nicanor A. Bartolome.
