VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur — The
National Grid Corp. of the Philippines said all major power transmission lines
in the National Capital Region and parts of North and South Luzon remain intact
and fully operational even during and after the heavy monsoon rains and massive
flooding last week.
NGCP North Luzon Public Affairs
Officer LilibethGaydowen said Monday their agency’s Integrated Disaster Action
Plan ensured necessary preparations and precautions were implemented to
minimize impact of heavy rains and other natural calamities on NGCP’s operation
and facilities.
“Preparations included ensuring
availability of hardware materials and supplies necessary for the repair of
damages to facilities, as well as the positioning of line crews in strategic
areas, to facilitate immediate restoration work,” she said.
She clarified major power
transmission lines refer to grid backbone facilities that carry at least 230
kiloVolts (kV) of electricity.
“Except for a few landslide-affected
transmission line structures in Bataan rated at 69 kV, all other power
transmission lines and substations of NGCP across the country remain
operational,” she noted.
“As power transmission service
provider and grid operator, NGCP continues to monitor the weather and flooding
conditions and their effects on power transmission facilities. In Bataan,
linemen will continue line inspection and correction once the flood has
subsided,” she added.
