BAGUIO CITY – Rep. Bernardo M. Vergara
allocated around P4 million from his Priority Development Assistance Fund
(PDAF) for the purchase of roadway lighting system that were already installed
along the stretch of the Baguio side of Kennon road, particularly from the
Baguio General Hospital (BGH) rotunda to the boundary of Camp 7 to prevent the
occurrence of crimes.
Vergara said the 2-km road section was
installed with 28 units Light Emitting Diode (LED) roadway lighting system to
light up the roadline and will serve as a deterrent to the occurrence of crimes
considering that the said stretch of Kennon road was previously identified as a
crime-prone area when it was not lighted.
“We have to do our part in helping the city
government light up our major parks and roads to deter the occurrence of crimes
and improve the peace and order situation in our city by sharing a portion of
our PDAF for the purchase of lighting fixtures and the eventual installation of
the same to identified parks and road sections,” Vergara said, adding that the
state-of-the-art, low power consumption, high efficiency and environmentally
friendly will greatly help in improving the lighting of the city’s parks to
entice local residents and visitors to enjoy the city’s cool and romantic
weather by spending time in the lighted parks and roads at night.
Aside from the 2-kilometer stretch of Kennon
road, Vergara said the same lighting fixtures were also installed at the tree
park beside the Baguio Convention Center to help light up the city at night and
prevent criminal elements from pursuing their trade.
The lawmaker’s park lighting program will
compliment the city government’s plan to replace its park and government
lighting fixtures with LED bulbs in order to save on power cost and help in
implementing mitigating measures against the serious negative effects of
climate change.
Vergara said he will allocate funds from his
PDAF to purchase LED fixtures that will be installed in unlighted parks and
road sections in the different parts of the city.
According to him, the city government needs
low power consumption and environmentally friendly lighting fixtures in order
to save on huge expenses for power annually so that the savings could be used
to bankroll other priority development projects and improve the delivery of
services to the people.
