Tourism event held; number coding rule suspended for tourists

BAGUIO CITY –Mayor Mauricio Domogan urged promotion of more activities to promote tourism here “through truthful and beautiful ways: friendly and hospitable citizens; peaceful and clean environment and safe infrastructure.”  

This is in addition to the natural come-on of Baguio which is its cool climate amidst the tourist spots, the mayor said.

“Tourism, though not capital-intensive, is the industry of the city, not to mention that we are the educational capital of the north” the mayor told a tourism seminar.

Speaking before tourism-oriented entrepreneurs, hotels, inns and lodging house owners and tourism students, he said  welcoming attitude of the people would mean much in the business.

“Correct statistics and data provided by you as key players would be of great help,” Mayor Domogan said. “Please double-check any information before announcement to ourselves and to the public,” he added.

Tourism, local and national government officials shall depend on reported statistics, to check existing deficiencies, work to rectify and improve any shortfall, the mayor further said.

The mayor recalled some years ago the announcements that a contagious disease, reportedly has befallen the city, causing a drop in tourism. The event decreased income for most of the city’s tourism-oriented businesses.

“Let it not be repeated,” Mayor Domogan said. 

The training workshop done at the Burnham Suites, was to gather data on tourism for local and foreign tourists.

It also sought to identify number of nationalities of tourists from Asia, the Middle East, America, Europe and other countries.     

This week and the next would be busy for the Golf-tournament, the longest running amateur golf competition in the world the mayor said.

It runs from Nov. 21 to Dec. 8 for which vehicles of participants are exempted from the number coding on Nov. 20 up to Dec. 7.        

Next on schedule would be the month-long Christmas in Baguio activities, and later the Panagbenga.

           

Graduation month follows, then homecomings, reunions and summer activities.
