DAGUPAN CITY– Four coastal areas in
Pangasinan are now free from red tide, latest laboratory analysis on shellfish
samples showed.
In Shellfish Bulletin 12 of the Bureau of Fisheries
and Aquatic Resources – Region 1 dated May 28, director Nestor Domenden said
coastal waters in Bolinao, Anda, Wawa in Bani and Alaminos City are free from
toxic red tide and shellfish gathered there are safe for human
consumption.
However, Domenden advised local government
units to require market inspectors, quarantine officers and administrators to
demand clearance certificates for any fish and seashells coming from other
provinces to ensure that they did not come from areas positive for paralytic
shellfish poisoning.
Domenden said the BFAR will regularly monitor
areas affected by red tide toxin to safeguard public health and promote the
shellfish industry.
