CHED grants tuition hike to 7 colleges in Cordillera

BAGUIO CITY --– Seven colleges and
universities were allowed by the Commission on Higher Education – Cordillera
Administrative Region to increase tuition and other school fees this
school opening.
CHED-CAR assistant regional director Ramon
Santiago in an interview over DZEQ - Radyong Bayan said CHED granted 10
percent tuition and miscellaneous hike to Pines City Colleges,
Baguio College of Technology (BCT), Baguio Central University (BCU) for
incoming freshmen.
Saint Louis University will also implement a
5% increase in tuition for freshmen.
Santiago said tuition and other school
fees which may be charged by Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to incoming
freshmen are not subject to consultation.
What they have to do is to post in
conspicuous places in their premises the schedule of tuition fees for incoming
freshmen on or before Feb. 28 of the academic year preceding the academic
year that the rates are to take effect.
Santiago said colleges and
universities granted tuition hike after consultation with
stakeholders include the Divine World College of Bangued in Abra which
will increase in other school fees particularly its affiliation fee. STI
College will likewise implement a 7% increase in tuition and other school fees.
The University of the Cordilleras will
implement a 27% increase in selected miscellaneous expenses and other school
fees.
The Baguio Central University will likewise
implement a 7 % increase in tuition fee of incoming 2nd year up to 5thyear
including a 10% increase in other school fees.
Santiago disclosed that the CHED did
not receive any proposal from state universities and colleges
for tuition fee increase.
