Chavit: Graft raps against me would soon be dismissed

VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur — Former Ilocos Sur Gov. Luis “Chavit” Singson Wednesday expressed optimism that the graft case filed against him and Vice Gov. Deogracias Victor Savellano by the Office of the Ombudsman would be immediately dismissed by the Sandiganbayan since the complainant had long been issued an affidavit of desistance.

“I was just surprised when I read in the newspapers that we were being charged with graft by the Ombudsman when the complainant of the case against me and Savellano had long backed out,” Singson said.

Singson and Savellano were charged with a P24-million graft case for extending financial assistance to the farmers. -- Mar T. Supnad
