Vinta destroys over P207M properties; 3 killed in NL

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said on Monday that over P207 million worth of properties were damaged after typhoon Vinta battered northern Luzon.

The NDRRMC said P1.3 million accounted for the damaged infrastructure while over P207 million in agriculture was destroyed in Regions 1 and 2 (Cagayan Valley and Ilocos respectively.
                
The agency also reported that three people have been confirmed killed and two more were missing.
                
In its update on the effects of the typhoon, the NDRRMC said the deaths were reported from  regions 1, 2 and the Cordillera Administrative Region.
                
The NDRRMC also reported that one person in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte was hurt after being hit by branches of a tree during the typhoon. 
               
Two persons remained missing in the provinces of Abra and Isabela after they were swept by strong water currents, the NDRRMC said.
                
The state disaster response agency said that more than 220,000 persons were affected by the typhoon.

The whole province of Ilocos Norte and some towns in Cagayan experienced brownout when Typhoon Vinta made landfall in extreme Northern Luzon.

However, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines was able to restore the power supply to affected areas as of 10 a.m. Nov. 2.

Gov. Marcos has begun on-the-spot monitoring and assessment to the damage left by the typhoon in the province.

As Monday, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) said that the typhoon hit at least 71 barangays from 14 towns and cities of the province, displacing at least 368 families or 1,777 persons.

The PDRRMC said 21 houses were totally destroyed houses, 312 partially damaged, while 37 homes were affected by floods.

“These reports are partial as we are expecting more reports from the different local government units (LGUs) while we are presently conducting ocular inspections all over the province,” Governor Marcos said.

She said the national roads in the province are now passable after a massive operation to clear trees and branches that blocked highways following the onslaught of the typhoon.

She assured residents that the provincial government will help assist them in recovering the effects of the storm.

Meanwhile, the provincial government is continuing relief operations in storm-affected areas.
NGCP North Luzon Public Affairs Officer LilibethGaydowen said power lines from Currimao to San Nicolas tripped off.

Power outages were also experienced by the residents in the towns of Buguey, Sta. Teresita, Sta. Ana and Gonzaga in Cagayan.

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-Cagayan Valley region information officer Nestor Marallag reported that many were rendered impassable by fallen trees.

The NDRRMC said a total of 113 families or 382 persons were affected by the storm in the Cagayan Valley region.
