BAUKO, Mountain Province – Mayor Abraham B. Akilit said the municipal government continues to prioritize livelihood opportunities for its people to boost economic activities even in the remote villages.

He said the local government had been linking with government agencies to provide local residents with sustainable sources of income while those who were able to graduate were given employment opportunities in local or overseas companies.

“We have to first prioritize improvement of delivery of basic services to our people and livelihood opportunities so that they will be able to have decent living conditions,” Akilit said.

According to him, sustainable sources of income through various means will address majority of constituents’ needs.

The municipal government had been organizing activities to promote products in 22 barangays as well as jobs fairs.

Because of significant improvements in the condition of national and provincial roads in the town, Akilit said the local government will also utilize its available meager resources, particularly part of its 20 percent development funds, for priority projects of barangays.

“Infrastructure will remain as one of priority projects of the municipal government. What we have done is just to ensure that people will have sufficient sources of livelihood so that basic infrastructures in their barangays will be utilized for their own common good,” Akilitsaid.

With sufficient sources of livelihood and with improved infrastructure, the local chief executive said people will now be able to transport goods.

He said local residents have become resourceful in utilizing available resources in their barangays to come out with their own products that serve as their identity once their products are sold in markets.

Bauko is a fourth-class municipality having a total land area of at least 18,000 hectares within the Mount Data National Park and an estimated population of more or less 34,000 individuals distributed in its 22 barangays.
