As the school opening starts this June, Hedcor equipped 15 primary teachers with basic computernavigation skills providing them with tools to impact their knowledge to their pupils in the coming academic year.

Elementary and kindergarten teachers from Hedcor’s host community schools participate in the three-day hands-on Information and Communication Technology training.  Participants are teachers from Bineng, Beckel and Lamut La Trinidad, Tadiangan, Tuba and Ampucao, Itogon schools in Benguet.

Facilitated by Raymond Eilinger, IT manager of Hedcor, the training took place at STI College computer laboratory on May 13-15. The training taught the teachers on advanced word processing techniques, presentation and spreadsheet operations.

“Nowadays computers are very useful in classroom discussions as it draw participation from our pupils,” says teacher Anthony Adawi of Ampucao Elementary School.

The activity is a continuing pledge of Hedcor during summer in preparation for the opening of classes. Since its conception in 2010, this is fifith time Hedcor held the same event catering to atleast a hundred of teachers. This came after Hedcor donated computer units to different schools totaling about 131.

“We saw the importance of arming the teachers with computer navigation skills to maximize the use of the donated computers in lieu of the advancement of learning,” says Romeo Catingub, Community Relations of Hedcor.
In the evolving education system nowadays, coupled with the emerging trends and behaviors, the capability to adapt and turn it into an opportunity to improve is prevalent.

Teachers are said to be the frontiers of education as they are the sources of knowledge. With this training, new ideas to refresh the teaching methods and improve visual aids not to mention cutting back time of preparation come in handy.

“I can already compute the grades of my pupils faster and easier,” enthused Margarita  Alonzo of Simpa Primary School.

This year, Hedcor with the Aboitiz Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of Aboitiz conglomerate give the biggest chunk of its projects to education in support to its various activities. Classroom buildings, library kit and computers donations, and diverse trainings are some of the activities Hedcor  conducts fortifying its commitment to sustainable development.
