Winners in Baguio City Academic festival bared

BAGUIO CITY – The Baguio Day Academic Festival committee bared the winners in the 2014 Academic Festival-Baguio Day Celebration held Sept. 19 here at City Hall.

University of the Philippines Baguio students ruled the speech contests participated in by universities and colleges and technical-vocational schools in the city.

The State U’s Jane Kacy Fabros and Christine Grace Catindig topped the oratorical contest and extemporaneous speech contest, respectively.  They were both coached by Shine Queri.

Felicia Ellis Penetrado of Medline Int’l. Training Institute placed second in the oratorical contest followed by Syed Imran Dy Hussain of Baguio College of Technology (BCT), third place.

Julius Barry Ragaza of the Systems Technology Institute and Jhomar Quiton of the Philippine Women’s University completed top three in extemporaneous speech.

In poster-making participated in by elementary schools, John Lino Familaran of Pacday Quinio Elem. School bagged gold followed by Mark Angelo T. Tabadero of Adiwang Elementary School and Jennifer C. Ladines of Mabini Elementary School.

Rizamae B. Oyammi of Pines City National High School copped the first place in the essay-writing contest followed by Cheriedan P. Baiwo of Guisad Valley National High School, second place and Bienica Yzabelle G. Tinte of the Baguio City National High School Main.

Councilor Peter Fianza, action officer of the activity, said cash awards will be given to the winners of the contest which is now a regular feature of the Baguio Day celebration.

Councilor Elmer Datuin, member of the Baguio executive committee, thanks the Department of Education Cordillera, Commission on Higher Education Cordillera, Tech-Voc sector and the Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA) for the success of the activity. – Aileen P. Refuerzo
