SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union — Around 60 kilos of carabao meat or “carabeef” were confiscated by a joint team of the city police and the Office of the City Veterinarian here last week.

City Veterinary Officer Flosie Decena said that the meat delivery from Bacnotan town, this province, was intercepted in Barangay III, here, on its way to Midtown Food Palace, a famous restaurant in this city.

The meat dealer, Loreta Maon, failed to show an inspection certificate and other documentations from its point of origin, Decena said.

“We want to ensure health food to residents,” she said, adding that consumers should be aware of illnesses resulting from eating meat that has not been inspected and cleared by the proper authorities.

Diarrhea, gastroenteritis, amoebiasis and other respiratory ailments may be acquired from eating unsafe meat, said Decena.
