BAGUIO CITY
– Contractors of the road work projects being undertaken in this mountain
resort will have to redo their work if found to be defective.
Mayor
Mauricio Domogan aired the warning her during a media forum Wednesday after
reports of cracks on newly re-blocked roads surfaced.
Recently,
the mayor called on the Department of Public Works and Highways, contractors
and city police for a meeting to address traffic inconvenience being
experienced by commuters and motorists due to the implementation of road works
at the central business district.
”The
contractors should work double time so road works will be finished before
schedule. The road rehabilitation works are right on track and I am happy that
some of the projects are ahead of schedule,” he said.
Domogan
however cautioned the contractors not to sacrifice quality of work over the
shortened period of time to finish the projects.
Domogan
said, “contractors will be blacklisted and will have to redo the roads which
will be proven to be below standards.”
The mayor
said contractors should ensure availability of flagmen in roads which are
undergoing re-blocking to help control the flow of traffic as agreed during
talks.
Domogan also
ordered traffic personnel to apprehend vehicles who park in no parking areas
especially on roads undergoing rehabilitation as this add to traffic
congestion.
