BONTOC, Mountain Province - -The Land Transportation Office here warned vehicle
owners and drivers to register their vehicles and renew their driver’s licenses
on time to avoid paying stiffer fines and penalties.
Elmer
Mendoza, Jr,, head of the LTO – Mountain Province, said the LTO is now implementing
the increased penalties for violations of traffic rules and regulations.
Join
Administrative Order (JAO) No. 2014-01 issued June last year by the Department
of Transportation and Communication, Land Transportation Franchising and
Regulatory Board and LTO, provide new penalties for violations on land
transportation laws, traffic rules and regulations.
Mendoza said
driving an unregistered motor vehicle is now meted a fine of P10,0000 and
P5,000 for driving without valid driver’s license.
He is
appealing to owners of vehicles and motorcycles to register their units
noting that there are still unregistered vehicles and motorcycles particularly
the old ones still plying the streets.
Other
recorded violations of traffic rules and regulations often committed in the
province include colorum vehicles and non-wearing of prescribed seatbelts.
Mendoza also
announced that LTO is implementing the Plate Standardization wherein vehicle
owners will pay additional P400 in their registration as payment for the replacement
of their car plates.
To avoid
possible problems in the registration of their vehicle later on, Mendoza
is advising individuals buying used cars or engines for
replacement to consult first the local LTO office to check if said vehicles or
engines can still be registered.
