BAGUIO CITY – Sen. Francis Chiz Escudero said Sangguniang Kabataan election was reset to
October 2016 after it was earlier scheduled Feb. 21 with budget of P1.1billion.
The reason on postponement, he said, was to
give way for the house of representative to pass the SK reform law.
“Ang problema kasi maraming mambabatas sa House
of Represenative ang gustong iabolish ang SK sabi nila maraming pagkukulang,
palpak at maraming problema sa SK” which same goes to Congress, said Escudero.
“Bakit hindi rin iabolish ang congreso… pag SK ganun din abolisyon agad”
“Hindi
kami pumayag sa senado at hindi kami papaya
sa senado na iabolishang SK” the simple reason for this is “kung may
pagkukulang dapat punuan, kung may mali dapat iwasto, [at] kung may dapat ituro,
ituro natin, hindi abolisyonang solusyon” the senator added.
The senator said one issue for abolition was
that the youth were being exposed to dirty politics, hence, one of the aims of
the SK reform law was to raise the age bracket to 18 years old and above
for eligible youth who wish to run for
SK offices.
This, so that youth officials would be able
to decide better on how to sign papers for example and not to be dictated upon
by their elders or bribed by officials, he said.
Youths who are 18 years old and below are allowed to become members but not as SK
officers.
