One killed, 9 hurt in Naguillan bus accident

SABLAN, Benguet -- One person was killed while nine others were seriously hurt Thursday when the bus they were riding in developed loose breaks making it fall down on its side on the middle of the road here along Naguillan Road  at Barangay Banangan.

A police report said the accident happened around 5:30 p.m. involving a public utility Hyundai Aero bus bearing plate AYL 773 with engine number D6AZPO99626 registered to Bernardo Figuerres Dumpit, of No. 2 Agoncillo St. Zone 3, Poblacion, Bangued, Abra.

The bus was driven by Petronilo Duarte Florague III, 35, resident of Natividad, Naguilian, La Union.

Investigation disclosed the bus came from Baguio and was descending towards La Union when the accident happened. 

As a result, nine  passengers sustained injuries and rushed to Baguio General Hospital for treatment.

Seven victims were all from La Union: Judy Torkuwato Chua, 56, of Naguilian town; JeanlynRillera, 33, of Agpay, Burgos; AylinCacheroVidad, 1,5 of Naguilian; Robert Estogoy Dulay, 35m of Naguilian; Joyce Gaona Corpuz, 24, of Naguilian;  Jamaica Jean Valmonte, 10 of Naguilian and Evelyn CacheroVidad, of Magungunay, Naguilian. 

Also injured were Delia Moswela Carolino, 49 of Holy Ghost Extension, Baguio City and Marites Fagayan, 56 of Calot, Banangan, Sablan.

Fagayan refused to be brought to the Hospital.

One passenger named Tommy Quezada Hipol, 40, of Caoyan, Burgos, La Union was declared dead on the spot by Dra. Junette B. De Guzman, municipal health officer of Sablan, Benguet at about 5:40 p.m. and was brought to Baguio Memorial Chapel in Baguio City.

Hipol reported tried to jump out from the bus but his head hit the road with strong impact causing his death. 

The driver of the bus was brought to Sablan police station for investigation while charges were prepared against him.
