LINGAYEN, Pangasinan  — The Food and Drug Administration-Center for Food Regulation and Research found molds in the sample of chewing gum, suspected to be behind the mass food poisoning of over a hundred school children in San Carlos City, Pangasinan last July 2.

Speaking before the Provincial Council, here, last Monday, Food and Drug Regulation Officer III Purisima Lozano said the chewy mint candy sample, upon inspection, was “found with molds, melted, and with damaged packaging.”

At least 111 pupils of the Guilew Integrated School in San Carlos City who had eaten the gummy candies were rushed to various hospitals after experiencing vomiting, nausea and stomach ache. -- PNA
