TARLAC CITY --
The Sangguniang Palalawigan of Tarlac will pass a resolution seeking to
cancel a contract signed by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) and the Metro Clark
Waste Management for the dumping of garbage from Canada at a facility in Capas
town.
The resolution said
the dumping of imported wastes at the Kalangitan sanitary
landfill in Capas violated SP Resolution No. 023-2002 and 108-2003.
The board members said
the waste could affect the environment and the health of the people of Tarlac.
Earlier, authorities,
including the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR),
considered the disposal of garbage from Canada at the Metro Clark landfill.
The DENR and the
Canadian embassy assured the public that the shipping containers of waste “are
neither toxic nor hazardous,” but environment groups believe otherwise.
The provincial council
said there was no evidence showing the garbage from Canada is not hazardous.
