 Marijuana uprooted in Tinglayan, Kalinga
TINGLAYAN, Kalinga – Police here uprooted and destroyed 3,800 fully grown marijuana stems in Barangay Buscalan in a marijuana eradication drive recently.
Police operatives discovered the 950 square-meter secret plantation through the information fed by residents and community officials.
The destroyed contraband was valued at P150,000.

173 Cordillera cops promoted
CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet -- One hundred seventy three (173) cops were promoted here Monday with with Mia Joy Oallares Cawed, Executive Judge, RTC, Baguio City of guset of honor and speaker.
Chief Supt. Elmo Francis Sarona, regional police director  administered oath-taking of 94 police officers assigned at the Regional Headquarters and Regional Public Safety Battalion.
 The 173 newly promoted police officers are composed of 98 commissioned officers and 75 non-police commissioned officers. 
Six Inspectors were promoted to the rank of Superintendent while 44 Police Senior Inspectors were promoted to Chief Inspector. There were also 45 Police Inspectors (PINSP) who were promoted to Police Senior Inspector (PSINSP), three Senior Police Officers 4 (SPO) were promoted to PINSP, four SPO3 were promoted to SPO4; two SPO2 were promoted to SPO3; two SPO1 were promoted to SPO3; 14 PO3-SPO1; 15 PO2-PO3;and 38 PO1 promoted to PO2.

Man gets down trike, shoots victim  
TABUK CITY, Kalinga –  A man shot here Wednesday is now in critical condition at a hospital here. A police report said the incident happened around 8 p.m. here at Bunaguen Street, Casigayan. The victim was named as Jaypee Lagon Polig, 32.
Investigation revealed that the victim and his four other companions were about to start their drinking session in front of Bersalona Store when two male persons wearing helmet on board a Honda XRM Motorcycle without plate number stopped near them. The back rider got down from the motorcycle and shot the victim several times. A certain Liza Pia Aggayaban Gunday, 18, who was inside the store was hit on her right thigh by a stray bullet and was brought to the hospital by responding police personnel.

Farmer, bocap surrender firearms
BANGUED, Abra – A farmer and barangay captain surrendered loose fireams here and in Lagangilang town respectively on Wednesday. Crispin Basa Barreras, 54, surrendered a shotgun while village chief Mauro Reyes Bringas surrendered a Cal. 45 pistol and magazine loaded with three bullets.

Student nabbedin Baguio buy-bust
BAGUIO CITY – Cops arrested here Wednesday at the Baguio Convention Center Steven Kenmark Camarillo Buscagan, 24, student,  in a buy-bust operation.
Confiscated from him was a sachet containing shabu, P500, Nokia cellphone and wallet.

Fugitive wanted for robbery, homicide falls
ITOGON, Benguet – A man wanted in Binalonan, Pangasinan for robbery with homicide was arrested by cops here Wednesday at Boa, Tuding. The suspect named Joshua Orpilla, 28, married was object of arrest warrant issued by Elizabeth L. Bernal, presiding judge of RTC, 1st Judicial Region Branch 47, Urdaneta City, Pangasinan.

Transient house operator,
driver, nabbed for shabu
BAGUIO CITY -- Police arrested a transient house proprietor here Tuesday in a buy-bust operation at Shell Gas Station along Marcos Highway. Nabbed was Romeo Rosal Calub, 41, of Maryhurst, Outlook Drive and Christopher Aquino Bajit, 36, driver, of 45 Purok 24, Barangay Irisan. Confiscated from them were  four sachets containing shabu three cell phones and two pieces of P500 bill buy-bust money.  

Mechanic shot dead
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – A mechanic was shot dead here July 24 at Barangay Tublay by two men.
A police report said cops responded to a report from Benguet General Hospital that a victim of a shooting incident was brought to their emergency room identified as Anthony Ebros “Basila” Salaing, 37, mechanic who was in business of buying and selling vehicles.
 Investigation disclosed around 7 a.m. that day, the victim was shot by two unidentified assailants who rode in a motorcycle and Tamarraw FX in-front RKT merchandise here at Barangay Shilan. The victim was immediately brought to BeGH by his family but was pronounced dead on arrival by attending physician.
Recovered from the crime scene were seven spent shells and four slugs for Cal. 45. Records showed the victim was under the target list of Benguet Police Provincial Office for illegal drug trade.

 Cordillera posts lower crime volume
CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet -- The Police Regional Office Cordillera recorded a decrease in crime in the region for the period January –June of this year as compared to the same period last year.
Supt. Brent Madjaco, acting chief, Regional Operations Division of PRO-COR and head secretariat of the Regional Law Enforcement Coordinating Committee reported a total crime of 6,913 cases  January to June of 2016 as against total crime volume of 10, 263 posted during the same 6-month period in 2015.
The total crime volume recorded for both periods translate to a 32.64 percent decrease, he said.
Madjaco said that similarly, index crimes decreased by 1,702 or 42.13% while 1,648 or 26.48% decrease for non-index crimes.
Theft constitutes the highest (51%) recorded index crime at 1,188 incidents followed by physical injuries with 501(21%); robbery, 350(15%); rape, 152(6%); carnapping, 61 cases (3%); Murder, 60 (3%); homicide, 21(1%) and cattle rustling with five incidents.
For the Average Monthly Crime Rate (AMCR), Madjaco reported that Cordillera has recorded 64.84 AMCR that translate to a decrease of 35.14% compared to same period of last year.
The dramatic downtrend of the crimes may be attributed, he said, to the Patrol 101 and the Patrolya ng Pulis operations wherein police personnel were deployed on the streets to conduct patrol and increase police visibility. -- Maria Aprila Cruz

Duck breeder shot dead inside tent
TABUK CITY, Kalinga – A duck breeder was shot dead here Monday around 9 p.m. here at Dananao, Ipil. Police identified the victim as Ador Balderamos Palapox, 29 of Ramon, Isabela.
Investigation disclosed that victim and his two companions Joel Agustin Cabacungan, 42, and Jeferson Oandasan Collado, 20, both residents of Alicia, Isabela had a drinking spree inside their makeshift tent that night. After drinking, Joel Cabacungan served their dinner when suddenly an unidentified suspect with  his face covered with clothes and armed with Cal.45 pistol entered their tent then fired three successive shots towards the victim hitting his head and body causing his death. The two companions of the victim ran away. 
The firearm, with three bullets in it believed used by the suspect was found where their getaway vehicle was parked some 100 meters away from the crime scene which might have been dropped by the perpetrator, police said. The cadaver was brought by the victim’s parents and relatives here to Carbonel Funeral Shop, San Juan.

 P62-M marijuana plants destroyed
TINGLAYAN, Kalinga --  Some 31,000 marijuana plants worth P62 million were destroyed by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) here on Mt. Chumanchil, Barangay Loccong, on Tuesday.
The marijuana plants were uprooted in a 45,000-square-meter plantation, said PDEA-Cordillera director Juvenal Azurin.
PDEA agents earlier burned 1,000 marijuana plants that were uprooted in Sitio Sapa, Barangay Tacadang in Kibungan, Benguet.
No one was arrested in both operations.

Painter arrested for trying to stab man
BAGUIO CITY – A painter was arrested here for attempting to kill the husband of a woman here whose cellphone he earlier stole. A police report said the incident happened here Tuesday night at the night market along Harrison Road.
Victims were identified as spouses Lorena Cabatuan Carudo, 35 and Jerry Alab Carudo, 35, carpenter, who were reportedly were victimized by Rafael Flores Burgos, 29, painter of No. 105 Quezon Hill Extension, BC.
            Investigation disclosed complainants and their nephew were waiting for their order at a food stall along the night market when the suspect went near them then stood behind Ms. Carudo and posed as a customer. Burgos  secretly took Mrs Carudo’s cellphone described as O+ Fab Go worth P10,000 from the front pocket of her jacket. However, a concerned citizen who saw the incident informed Mrs. Carudo.
From there, suspect suddenly placed back said cellphone inside Mrs. Carudo’s jacket’s pocket and was about to leave the area when he bumped Mr Carudo. The suspect acted irked and rude and shouted at Mr. Carudo:  “Tuso ka a kayat mun samet ti matay (You are rude, maybe you want to die.” Burgos allegedly picked a barbecue stick and was about to stab Mr. Carudo but was immediately pacified by POSD enforcers who arrested and turned him over to Station 7.

Construction worker arrested for shabu
BAGUIO CITY – Police and narcotics agents nabbed a construction worker here Tuesday along Carantes Street, Middle Quezon Hill, for illegal drugs. Arrested was Joel Ragon Bautista, 34, of Carantes Street, Middle Quezon Hill.
        Seized from the suspect were P500 buy-bust money, shabu valed at P14,000.

Bontoc laborer nabbed for shabu
BONTOC, Mountain Province – Police and narcotics agents conducted buy-bust operation here along the national road in sitio Faniyas, Samoki, which resulted to the arrest of Ajib Saripada Mapandi, 37, laborer. 
Seized from the suspect were shabu and two P500 bills. Charges were filed against him for illegal drugs.

Farmer accosted for illegal gun
TAYUM, Abra – Cops arrested a farmer here Tuesday at a checkpoint along the Abra-Kalinga Road for having in his possession A Cal. 45 pistol loaded with seven bullets. Arrested was Boyet Alagao Atmosfera, 27, with live-in partner, of Barangay Bagalay, here.

Farmer lands in jail for frustrated homicide 
TABUK CITY, Kalinga – A farmer was arrested here Tuesday for frustrated homicide. The suspect was identified as Joven Corpuz Patac, 46, of Lawig, Lamut, Ifugao. He was arrested at his residence after Marcelino K. Wacas, presiding judge of RTC, 2nd Judicial Region, Brach 25, Bulanao, Tabuk issued  arrest warrant against him with  no bail

Kiangan gov’t employee released after posting bail
KIANGAN, Ifugao – A government employee submitted herself to police here here Tuesday after charges were filed against her for  violation of Presidential Decree 705.
Milagros T. Butale, 51 had warrant of arrest issued by Judge Romeo U. Habbiling of RTC Branch 14, Lagawe who set bail of P30,000 for her temporary liberty. Butale was released after posting bail.
  
Car, trike collide; two drivers hurt
STA. MARCELA, Apayao – The drivers of a car and motorcycle were injured when the lastter bumped the former here Tuesday night along the national road at Barangay San Isidro Sur. A police repot said a Honda Civic Sedan owned and driven by Elpidio Sabalburo Taneca, 60, retired Philippine Air Force with his passenger Jonathan Ballesteros Bagasin, 36,mechanic was accidentally bumped by a motorcycle with no license plate driven by Winlove Sabado Herrera, 26, farmer. 
Investigation disclosed Taneca and Bagasin were having a road test of the vehicle heading towards Junction Libertad, Cagayan when thei car they were in was accidentally bumped by the motorcycle while dtraveleing in the same direction. Accordingly, the car driver was making a U-turn when a speedy motorcycle bumped the driver’s side door of said vehicle. Taneca suffered slight injuries on his head while Herrera suffered multiple abrasions on different parts of his body and brought to Far North Luzon General Hospital and Training Center. Both vehicles were damaged.

Divorced woman, partner, nabbed over hotel debt
BAGUIO CITY – A divorced woman, her live-in partner and their daughter were arrested here Tuesday for staying at the Newtown Plaza Hotel here along Leonard Wood Road for almost three months and trying to sneak away without paying their bill. 
Arrested was Mylene M. Ramos, 46, unemployed of San Jose, Sto. Tomas, Pangasinan, on complaint of Arlene De Guzman, 31,  front desk supervisor  of Newtown Hotel.
Investigation disclosed the suspect with her daughter and live-in partner checked in at the hotel on May 1 and within the period of their stay until July 26 had a computed debt of P224,000 for hotel rent and services. Complainant said during the first month, the suspect paid by installment.  However on the succeeding month, suspect did not pay their dues until they were apprehended for surreptitiously leaving the hotel.

Carpenter electrocuted
MANKAYAN, Benguet – A carpenter was accidentally electrocuted here Tuesday aroundf 11 a.m. at the residence of Arsenia Onangey at Aurora, Poblacion.  The victim was identified as Noli Awal Bugtong, 45 here of Bay-o, Balili.
 Investigation disclosed the victim and a companion were reniovating the house when the victim held an electric sander, inserted the plug into the socket while the sander was grounded electrocuting the victim. Bugtong became unconscious and was brought to Mankayan Infirmary and later referred to Lepanto Hospital for further treatment. However, at around 12:16 that day, he was pronounced dead by Dr. Zerubabel Pateňa.

Lighting strikes farmer dead 
BUGUIAS, Benguet – A farmer was killed by lightning here Tuesday.
A police report said around 11 p.m. that day, kagawad Delfin Belao of Baculongan Norte called police saying they  brought a victim of lightning identified as Edmund Balistian Ibanez, 24, native of Alfonso Lista, Ifugao  to Bekes Emergency Hospital. Ibanez was declared dead on arrival at the hospital by by Dr. Analiza Dalmacio. Electrocution trhough lightning was identified as cause of death as evidenced by burned clothing, skin and abrasions on his body.   
 Investigation disclosed that day around 2 p.m., the victim went to his garden at Sitio Sebseb, Baculongan Norte, to plant cabbage when he was struck by lightning. When it was getting late in the evening, his wife Arlene, worried when her husband did not yet arrive home called her father to look for her husband. At about 10:45 p.m. that night, they found the body of her husband lying down along the terrace of his garden.

Carpenter found dead in Irisan school  
BAGUIO CITY – A carpenter was found dead here Tuesday around 4 p.m. at the construction site of Irisan National High School Annex here. Dante Viernes Aquino, 53, of Pozzurobio Pangasinan and stay in at the said construction site was found lifeless by June Demasuay, 47,stay-in worker.  
Investigation disclosed that Demasuay was looking for bottles of softdrinks at the tent of the construction workers when he accidentally saw the body of the victim lying on his back, without upper garment, with a white towel covering his lower body, his pants worn below his knees and not moving prompting him to report the incident to guard Francis Tenny Monton who reported the same to police.
 Responding cops broughr the victim’s body to Bahay Damayan located at Marcos Highway for autopsy.

A case of love, lies and violence
LUNA, Apayao -- A case of violation of Republic Act 9262 was filed against a man here at the Provincial Prosecutors Office for allegedly abusing his live-in part ner despite having a child with her and threatening to kill her. 
 A police report said since year 2013 to 2014, Meljane Bangay Agbayani, 23, single parent, business woman of Guinto, Poblacion West, Flora, Apayao was allegedly abused by her former live-in partner Regie Collado Rayray of Palloc, Ballesteros Cagayan.
Investigation disclosed that, victim was deceived by the respondent Regie Rayray for telling her that he was single and promised to give financial support for her college studies as long as they will live as husband and wife in Manila but the respondent failed to send her to study, until they went home to Ballesteros Cagayan sometime in October 2013. While there, the respondent allegedly maltreated her physically by kicking her stomach, slapping her face every time he got drunk which she did not reveal to anyone.
On December 2013, while she was working at the Robinson Galleria, in Laoag City she got pregnant and told this to his live-in partner who told her to go home to Flora.
After several days respondent left for Manila to look for a job to support their needs when she will give birth. Respondent did not come back and never sent support.
On September 2014, victim tried to file a case against the respondent but he promised her again to support them, because he can no longer live with them for he was already married.
Police said the respondent threatened to kill her by calling her through phone last June 2016.

Miner maltreats minor; claims he is PMA captain 
BAGUIO CITY – A miner was arrested here Monday and slapped with charges for physical injuries and usurpation of authority.
Police investigation disclosed the miner’s victim who was tipsy with liquor was at the back of a store when the suspect who identified himself as Sgt. Jones Domatog Bucalen, 28,  married, resident of Purok 4, Kias, Baguio City assigned at Engineering Office of Philippine Military Academy and detailed at the Military Intelligence Battalion of PMA Fort Del Pilar here, kicked the face of the victim hitting his eyebrow and chin prompting several passersby to pacify him but he got irked and identified himself as a military captain.
He later identified himself as a Senior Police Officer 2. Responding cops arrested the suspect. PMA authorities sais they did not know Bucalen and was not connected with the military school. His relatives appeared at Police Station 4 and disclosed that the suspect was a miner at Acupan Mines.  

3 nabbed for shabu
BAGUIO CITY – Three persons were nabbed here Monday for illegal drugs at Lower Loakan Liwanag. Arrested were Eric Dollaga Lachica, 31; John Eric Mariñas Bulatao, 26 and Julbert Flores Salvacion, 3. Confiscated from them were shabu and drug paraphernalia. low.

Driver jailed for rape
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – A driver was arrested here Monday at River Side Gulon Ambiong for acts of lasciviousness and rape. Police from this town and San Gabriel, La Union arrested Elmer Epit Galape, 23, resident of Riverside Gulon after Judge Alpino P. Florendo of RTC, Branch 30, San Fernando, La Union issued warrant for his arrest on Nov. 17, 2015.
Florendo set bond of P20,000 for lasciviousness with no bail for rape. Galape was turned over to San Gabriel Police Station who jaile4d him while awaiting court proceedings.

Makati hotel room boy shot; survives
PIDIGAN, Abra – A room boy of a 5-star hotel in Makati City who was here on vacation was shot by two motorcycle-riding men Monday around 12 midnight in Barangay Pangtud. The victim, who survived, was identified as Bernie Baje Vasquez, 24, single, room boy of 5 star hotel at Makati City and a resident of Pangtud, Pidigan, Abra. After being shot,, the victim and a certain Sherwin Vasquez went to local police station to report the incident. Police rushed the victim to Abra Provincial Hospital in Bangued..
 Investigation showed the victim and Sherwin went to a wake near their house to gamble. When the victim was about to go home onboard his motorcycle, two unidentified men who were at a waiting shed suddenly started their motorcycle, loaded their gun and followed him. The victim accelerated his motorcycle until he reached their house where the gunman shot him five times and fled towards Bangued, Abra. The victim sustained one gunshot wound on his back that exited on his left chest.
