DOST holds tech trainings to boost folks’ lives, income

CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga -- The Dept. of Science and Technology provincial office here is conducting technology trainings and similar activities to boost income of residents here.
             DOST trained 20 members of the Tinglayan Patad Organization (TPO) on furniture making and iron works while members of the Pagsayaatan Credit Cooperative (PCC) of Ipil, this city were trained on nutri-baked products.
                 Jasmin Donaal, provincial DOST head, said their office also awarded TPO machines and carpentry tools with training component to enhance the skills of beneficiaries on wood and iron crafts.  The PCC was awarded an oven, baking equipment and cooking utensils.
She said poor families in Magao-gao, Pinukpuk, a Pumiyaan covered barangays, are also awaiting training on noodles making on November 16.
                “Pumiyaan, an anti-poverty project of the provincial government, provided the group with cooking equipment and utensils while DOST will conduct skills training as their counterpart,” Donaal said.
Members of the Belong Credit Cooperative are also set to have training on rice-based food products and other locally available beans into baked products on November 20.
                On November 21-23 is an open training on weaving for interested high school senior students, persons with disabilities, solo parents and out of school youth to be conducted in partnership with KINWA Ethnika and the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines.    
This training to be held here at KINWA Ethnika center will focus on competitive design of woven products embedded on indigenous textiles.
On November 21 will be a forum for senior citizens on noodles making at Taga, Pinukpuk. This is  aimed to assist the group spend their remaining productive years on operating a livelihood.
