80 Cordillera cops undergo security operations course

CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet – The Police Regional Office here started a Basic Internal Security Operations Course (BISOC) with a class of 80 police officers assigned with the Regional Mobile Force Battalion and Maneuver Force Companies.
 During the program, regional police staff chief Col. David K. Peredo, Jr delivered the welcome remarks followed by presentation of participants by Col. Wilson Soliba, chief of Regional Learning and Doctrine Development Division.
BISOC is a foundation course which is the enhanced version of the 45-day special counter-insurgency operations unit training (SCOUT) which aims to upgrade officers’ counter-insurgency skills, said Maj. Carolina Lacuata, PROCOR information officer Wednesday.
“This is also meant to develop the personal effectiveness and capability of police officers in handling internal security operations as well as develop initiatives and attitudes that could best help them live up to their duties and responsibilities.”
The activity was graced by the regional police director Brig. Gen. Israel Ephraim Dickson as guest speaker.
In his message, Dickson urged trainees to take their training seriously and imbibe what they are about to learn as it will equip them with knowledge and skill against lawless elements.
“Keep in mind that skills alone will not save you, but skills plus proper planning and coordination is equal to operational success,” Dickson said.
 The program ended with the reception rites of the trainees.

8 ‘drug pushers’ fall in Baguio, Benguet

CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet –Eight drug personalities were arrested for allegedly selling illegal drugs during buy-bust operations conducted in Baguio City and Benguet.
 In Baguio City, six drug personalities were separately apprehended after they sold sachet of suspected shabu to undercover cops who acted as buyers.
On July 9, suspects identified as Erwin Umuquit Cuarteron, 21, bicycle attendant at Burnham Park, Baguio City, and resident of Lopez Jaena, Aurora Hill, Baguio City was arrested along an alley at Purok 2 Ambiong, Aurora Hill, Baguio City while a female drug pusher identified as Ma Bella Rosal Sopolmo, 41, hair stylist, and a resident of San Nicolas West, Agoo, La Union and a member of Pascua Drug Group operating in La Union was arrested in Barangay Lourdes Proper Baguio City.
Confiscated from the possession of Cuarteron were one sachet of shabu, P500 cash money, P500 boodle money, one cell phone and assorted drug paraphernalia while two sachets of suspected shabu, P1,000.00 buy-bust money, P1,000 and also a cell phone were confiscated from Sopolmo.
Four other persons were arrested at East Quirino Hill, Baguio City on July 10. They were identified as Alona Cantela Deinla, 35 of Montreal, Masbate, Mayhen Barbosa Espana, 35, Jason Aquino Pertobal 29, both natives of Pangasinan and Alfeo Hopana Alparo, 29, of Dolores, Abra and all residents of East Quirino Hill, Baguio City.
Records showed Deinla was listed in the Directorate of Intelligence as high value target since 2016 while her three other cohorts admitted that they were being used by Deinla as couriers of shabu.
Pieces of evidence confiscated from them were nine sachets of suspected shabu, P500 cash, P3,500.00 boodle money, pouch and cell phone.
In Benguet, two drug pushers were separately apprehended on July 9.  They were identified as Randy Palacsa Bugnay, 26, miner, a resident of Upper Abatan, Buguias, Benguet and a native of Salat, Lomon, Kapangan, Benguet, and was caught at Upper Abatan, Buguias, Benguet while John Galacyan Nganayon Jr. aka “Jan Jan”, 30, storekeeper, native of Bontoc, Mt.Province and resident of Lubas, La Trinidad, Benguet was apprehended at Tebteb, Balili, La Trinidad.
Confiscated from Bugnay were one plastic sachet of shabu, P1,000 buy-bust money and one keypad  cell phone while one sachet of suspected shabu, one OPPO cell phone and P1,000 buy-bust money was taken from Nganayon.
All suspects arrested are now facing charges for violation of RA 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Board of 2002.
Brig. Gen. Israel Ephraim Dickson, Regional Director of the Police Regional Office Cordillera cited operatives for the arrest of the suspects. “We will continue this anti-drug operations and we will work hard on the strategy to arrest all individuals involved in illegal drugs in the region” he said.


Acetylene Group member arrested by CIDG men    

BAGUIO CITY - A member of Alfredo Rufino aka Pal-eg gang reportedly involved in robbery through the use of acetylene and bolt cutters were arrested CIDG Cordillera agents here Wednesday in Barangay San Luis, Baguio City.
Allyson N. Aligan, 24 of Patiakan, Quirino, Ilocos Sur was arrested following warrant issued by Judge Rodolfo B. Dizon of RTC, Branch 18, Ilagan, Isabela. He had reportedly been involved in robbery cases in other regions.
Aligan was previously arrested by CIDG detectives in his residence at Patiakan after the RTC Branch 90 of Dasmarinas, Cavite issued warrant for his arrest with no bail recommended on Feb. 11.


Tamaraw FX falls off Itogon road; 5 men hurt

ITOGON, Benguet – Five passengers including the driver were seriously hurt when a Toyota Tamaraw FX they were riding in fell down a 125-foot raviune here Monday around 11 a.m. along Benguet-Nueva
Vizcaya Road here at Sitio Marooc, Barangay Loacan.
A police report by Msg. Allen D. Tico said the vehicle with plate number WFK 857 driven by  Johnny Agno Galletes, 57, married, of Sitio Tocmo, Loacan, Itogon was on its way to Baguio when it fell down the ravine.
The report said the injured passengers named as Jonathan Umawing, Nestor Batnagan, Marcelo Buton and Marlino Palkit, all residents of Tocmo, Loacan, Itogon, Benguet, came from Ambuklao, Bokod town. According to the driver, he fell asleep and lost control of the vehicle until it fell down on the ravine.
Responding PNP personnel, barangay officials of Loacan, led by kagawad Erinio Amogan and BFP-Itogon led by FO2 June D. Mayam applied first aid to the victims and brought them to Baguio General Hospital for medication.


4 men nabbed for attempted murder

LAGAYAN, Abra – Four men were arrested here Tuesday by police for attempted murder after wearratn was isdsued against them by  by Judge Richard T. Domingo of RTC Branch 1, Bangued.
Nabbed at Poblacion here were Jackiemar B. Escalante, Jeronimo P. Andoy, Fernando C. Blaza Jr., Jaypee A Bersamira and Benjie A. Vista. The judge set bail of P120,000 for temporary liberty of the suspects.


2 men cornered for attempted homicide  

TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Two men were arrested here Tuesday here at Barangay Agbannawag for attempted homicide. Nabbed were Mike D. Boston and Clarecne C. Camalao after warrant was issued against them by Judge Nympha D. Abbacan of MTC, Tabuk City, Kalinga. The judge set bail of P36,000 thousand each for the accused.

2 nabbed for stealing Apayao cop’s bicycle

LUNA, Apayao – Two students were arrested Tuesday for stealing a cop’s bicycle here at Purok Maligaya, Barangay Dagupan.
The victim was identified as Chucky Flor Banayos Patayan, 30, member of the Philippine National Police assigned at Apayao Provincial Mobile Force Company based here at Camp Allan San Francisco.
One suspect was identified as Sean Rovin Viernes Bunagan 19 but the name of his cohort, a  17-year-old ALS student was not disclosed by police.
Investigation disclosed around 3 a.m. Monday, Patayan and  Cpl. Tyrone David Villafuerte were on duty at the gate of Camp Allan when the two suspects passed by the camp walking a bicycle.
Patayan suspected the bicycle as his so he and Villafuerte stopped them and asked their names. Bunagan identified himself but his companion did not. After duty, Patayan went home and checked his bicycle but it was missing so he reported the incident to their chief SSg. Rodolfo Apada Guzman. Police conducted manhunt and apprehended the suspects at Barangay Sta Lina.
The bicycle was recovered while the suspects were turned over to Luna police station.


Farmer sets estafa case vs carpenter 

FLORA, Apayao – A complaint for estafa was filed against a carpenter here Monday for allegedly duping a farmer to enter into a contract with him for the latter to install galvanized iron on his roof which did not materialize since the latter just ran away with his money.  
A town police report by SSG Batara said the agreement between the two was made here at Barangay Aninipan wherein the farmer-victim was identified as Virgilio R. Pascual, married, 63.
The suspect was named as Harold Cutaran, of Barangay Bulo, Allacapan, Cagayan.
 Investigation disclosed on March 5, Cutaran went to the house of the victim and convinced him to enter into an agreement for the purchase and installation of galvanized iron sheet roofing amounting to P160, 000.
Pascual didn’t have enough money so he borrowed P60, 000 from his daughter, Hazel as down payment of said contract.
The suspect promised todeliver and install the items on or before March 22 but did not keep his promise.
On April 7, the victim and his daughter went to Allacapan Municipal Police Station to settle the problem wherein Cutaran promised to return the P60, 000.00 on April 30 but failed to comply on said agreement to date.
The victim tried to contact the suspect but his cellphone could no longer be contacted prompting the victim and daughter to report the incident to Flora police.
Documents were prepared for filing of an estafa case against Cutaran.

.Hingyon police seize logs in forest

HINGYON, Ifugao – Town police led by Gregorio Buyayo under supervision of Capt. Cruzaldo Liwayan in coordination with DENR personnel conducted anti-illegal logging operation in a forested area particularly here Minday at Sitio Anapawon, Barangay O-ong that resulted to confiscation of 62 pieces abandoned cut logs from assorted species of trees locally known as “tabangawon, mangalittuba, tongol and dalayon.
A report by Cpl. Martin Guimbongan said the trees were valued at P19,000.
He said the operation was conducted following a report from David Binwag, barangay captain of O-ong. The logs were brought to Hingyon police station for inventory.


Safety vault with documents found along Tuba roadside 

TUBA, Benguet – Police found a dismantled safety vault here at a drainage canal along the side of a road Monday around 1 p.m. This, following a report of Lorna Runas, barangay chairperson of San Pascual who revealed the vault with brand name Sentrysafe was left at SitioTarong, San Pascual by still undidentified persons. Found by cops in the 18x19x24 vault were assorted documents. The vault was brought to Tuba Municipal Police Station said MSG de Guzman who filed the report. Residents said the persons who left the vault could have stolen it for the money inside and discarded it after getting the moolah.
