Ambulance falls Bontoc ravine; two dead, 3 hurt

BONTOC, Mountain Province -- Two persons died while three others were injured when an ambulance fell into a ravine here in Sitio Doddo, Barangay Talubin Tuesday. 

Police said Earole Kurt Akiate, 21, and ambulance driver Franklin Angawa died at the scene. 

Rexton Duyapat, 20; social worker Nelda Joy Tapyugon, 23, and nursing attendant Anabelle Attang, 32, were taken to hospitals for treatment.

The victims came from the Luis Hora Regional Memorial Hospital in Bauko, Mountain Province and were on their way to the Hungduan Municipal Hospital in Ifugao when the accident occurred.

Police are still investigating cause of the crash.

Over the years, a lot of road crashes have happened along the Bontoc-Ifugao road.

Most of the road had been cemented already but some parts are not.

It takes around two to three hours to reach the tourist town of Banaue from Bontoc.  

Travel from Sagada to Bontoc takes around an hour.
