EDITORIAL
Those
eligible to vote in the Philippines in the 2020 national and local elections
can now register with the Commission. The Comelec has resumed registration of
voters on Jan. 20.

John Paul Martin said the Comelec is now accepting applications for
registration, transfer of registration records, change/correction of entries in
the registration record, reactivation of registration record, and reinstatement
of name in the list of voters.
Application and updating of
records shall be done personally at the Office of the Election Officer of the
city or municipality where the applicants reside from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays
to Saturdays including holidays except on April 9 and 10, 2020 (Maundy Thursday
and Good Friday), Dec. 25, 2020 (Christmas Day), and April 1 and 2, 2021
(Maundy Thursday and Good Friday).
The registration period will run
until Sept. 30, 2021.
Those who can register are
Filipinos who will at least be 18 years old on or before Election Day
on May 9, 2022, residents in the Philippines for at
least one year, and have been residing in place where
they intend to vote for at least six months on or before Election Day.
Registered voters as of the May
13, 2019 midterm elections need not apply again, Comelec according to the
Comelec.
The Commission per resolution No.
10635 decided to resume voters’ registration this month instead of the July 6, 2019,
in view of the postponement of the May 11, 2020 Barangay and Sangguniang
Kabataan Elections pursuant to Republic Act. No 8189.
Martin said while the end of
voter registration is on Sept. 30, 2021, would -be registrants should register
earlier and not wait for the deadline. Be guided accordingly.
