CAUAYAN, Isabela -- –
The subject of a buy-bust operation in Barangay Cabaruan, Cauayan City was
slain after he chose to engage law enforcers in a shootout instead of
surrendering last May 21.
Drug suspect
Michael Talal, alias Dondon, was pronounced dead on-arrival at a local hospital
where he was brought by personnel of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in
Region 2 (PDEA-2) and Cauayan City Police who conducted the anti-illegal drugs
operation at around 10:30 p.m.
A police
officer who acted as poseur buyer was able to buy two heat-sealed transparent
plastic sachets containing shabu from the suspect.
However, the
Talal reportedly sensed that the person he was dealing with was a police
officer, prompting him to draw a firearm tucked under his waist and firing at
the lawman.
The police
officer returned fire, hitting Talal once.
Meanwhile,
joint elements of PDEA Batanes Provincial Office, and Aparri Police Station
arrested a certain Kelvin Alonzo, 33, and a resident of Barangay Centro 2,
Aparri, Cagayan after being caught in the act of selling illegal drugs Thursday
afternoon.
Alonzo will
be charged for violation of Section 5, Article II of RA 9165 otherwise known as
Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
