‘Fish on wheels’ travels to Benguet municipalities

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- The Provincial Fishery Office through the “Fish on Wheels” program of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) is bringing fish products directly to the municipalities  this  period of Enhanced Community Quarantine(ECQ).

Provincial Fishery officer Arnulfo Taberna said the project aims to ensure fish supply for communities with restricted travel and movements during the ECQ.

Majority of fish supply in the province come mainly from the lowland areas. Tilapia or the so called chiclid fish is also sourced from Ambuclao   in Bokod.

Taberna said the fish orders in the municipalities are consolidated and delivered in drop-off points through stores or cooperatives.

For two weeks now, the PFO has delivered a total of 2.070 tons of variety of fresh fish and marine products such as tilapia, bangus, galunggong or round scad, squid and shrimps in the towns of Bokod, Tublay, Sablan and La Trinidad.

Taberna said prices of the commodities are given at acquired prices. Tilapia is sold at P110 per kilogram, bangus ranges from P140 to P145/kg, shrimps from P340 to 350/kg, galunggong lalaki at P140/kg, galunggong babae at P120/kg, and squid at P120/kg. Assorted dried fish and squid will also be delivered to Bokod within this week, he said.

                The “Fish on Wheels” under the "Kadiwa ni Ani" program of the Department of Agriculture ensures fisherfolks’ income through direct selling to consumers and ensure institutional market linkages.  (JDP/SCA-PIA-CAR, Benguet)
